Wow, all these weapons experts in this thread. I cant see any reason not to choose an unfinished foreign made rifle, firing experimental cartridges and made by the strategically, tactically and technically overreaching enemy who you just kicked the shit out of... instead of your proven, indigenous weapon you just kicked the shit out of them with. Politics and greed, right?

@pissyourselfandshitncoom2172 Actually the M1 and M2 carbine had more influence on American development of 'assault' rifles, than the MP44 did. Hence why we are still using what is basically a sub-caliber 30 carbine cartridge. The M2 carbine was the performance standard used to develop the M16.

@jessiepinkman7736 The MG42, in its most efficient form, is a crew weapon. The M60E6, is individual serviceable. Of course you are all smarter. There's a reason soldiers don't choose their equipment.

@jessiepinkman7736 Oh, boy... you're a reader. Do you understand the difference between a crew and individual weapon? Its irrelevant how it was achieved, the fact remains that one man can mobile a M60, while the MG42 requires a crew and emplacement.

@scottc1857 'Better' is the definition of a relative term. Better at what? In what way? There's an old maxim that anyone can build a bridge that will stand, but it takes an engineer to build one that barely stands. How much better does a weapon system need to be and in what areas? The supremacy of the M16 system is that its rote adequacy, is a force multiplier. The cartridge is lightest that will reliably defeat soft armor and produce incapacitating wounds, within visual ranges; 556 is devastating on soft targets, onside 400m. To reliably defeat hard armor, with a rifle, requires a cartridge that isn't good for anything else. The point being that there are guns that are significantly better in various areas and cartridges that handily outperform 556. But, you cant really get 137% deader; while you can make 60% more THOTs 99% dead.

@ronalddunne3413 Indeed, the AK is just a typically Communist copy of the MP44. The AK is about 99% propaganda. No, it wasn't ingeniously designed to work in the snow, the sand and the jungle... it was designed so that parts made in same factory on different days, will still fit together.
