Yeah, you see all the black smoke amongst the houses and all the editing of the video? Because they just fired wild into people's homes to get a couple of vehicles and then you'll all be blaming Russia for bombing civilians. This was amateur hour, is what this was.

@slayermill8621 You are watching a heavily edited propaganda video. They shelled the Hell out of that entire neighborhood to hit a couple of low value point vehicles. Watch again, but observe the surrounding neighborhood after each jump cut. This went on for awhile. The lead vehicles were pretty far out ahead of the main body and probably massed to support each other, thinking they were taking light weapon fire, because it was so sparse and ineffective; they probably couldn't see the hits all over the neighborhood. After losing a couple vehicles they pulled back.

@Trentonpage Im pretty sure. He was just explaining, perhaps not very diplomatically, that ambushes happen and there's little you can do to prevent it and limited options to deal with it when it does. Vehicles have to move. They have to move through dangerous ares. They're dangerous because they force you into a vulnerable position. US forces got ambushed all... the... time. The only thing that saved them, is the enemy just didn't have the firepower to make anything of it.

More important is the editing of the video to show only those couple hits in the road. They shelled the crap out of that neighborhood, as youll see watching the neighborhood get clouded in smoke.

@ArtemLokhovitskiy Everyone is projecting Western military doctrine onto Russia, which has never operated the way they're basing all their 'expert' analysis on; and projecting Western values onto Ukraine, which anyone who doubts they indeed are Russian, needs only look at the way they're conducting themselves, using Human shields, indiscriminately shelling entire towns out of existence and employing Soviet style propaganda to shine it up.

@slayermill8621 I get what you're saying. Im saying its hard to analyze tactics, from what amounts to a slideshow. We don't really know the circumstances. My guess would be that the artillery was so sparse, that they couldn't tell what it was and assumed they were taking light weapons fire from the houses, like RPG and such. By the time they realized it was artillery and tried to turn back, the trailing vehicles taking fire behind them and probably thinking the same thing, hit the gas and ran up into them. Yeah, mistakes were made, but they did all escape.

@PhilLesh69 This was a probe. The forward vehicles were out ahead of the column. If they had known what they were doing, they'd have let the column penetrate deeper before hitting it and raked the shit out of it in the bottleneck. All they really accomplished, was expose their tactics and capabilities for no real gain. Can't tell from the propaganda video here, because they have it all edited up to hide the indiscriminate artillery fire all over the neighborhood (tommorow they'll claim that as Russia bombing civilians), but Russia successfully employed target drone T72s in Syria, as point units, to draw fire. I would expect to see a lot of that now and it would explain a lot of the confounding tactics of lead units that we've been seeing; leisurely driving in a straight line up the middle of the street far ahead like a baton twirler at a parade.

@acendantoverlord5737 'They' say a lot of things. Thats propaganda. What we know is he was allegedly killed, allegedly in this attack. Neither of those things are confirmed, but the attack took place over at least 20 minutes, judging by vehicle movement and smoke dispersion; and over a substantial area, with hits at least a km back up the line. Furthermore, only a couple of vehicles were actually hit and destroyed, so if he were at the front(which is just not how Russians do it) that would be some incredible luck to have randomly hit his vehicle. The point being that as deceitfully edited as the video is, I don't put much stock in their words.
