  1. Its an asinine statement and you are dead right that its the graveyard of Afghans. But, for a bit different reason. Every invasion has irreparably altered their culture. Theyre still basically sedentary Mongols. The Taliban and in general, the Afghan people, are Luddites. So any adoption of technology, is a corruption of their identity. 'Afghanistan' has been conquered many times, but it offers nothing but geography, which makes it very expensive to maintain.

  2.  @silent_stalker3687  That is an extremely poor read. About 20% of the ANA defected to the Taliban. Thats a lot of your own guys that have the same equipment and training as you and know where you and everything you care about lives. But, its hardly 'the whole army'. If you want to generalize the motivational integrity of the ANA, you could compare it to the National Guard. The average ANA was a basic soldier - doing a job to put food on the table. We intentionally setup their gvt and military, to work on our systems; they can drive the car, but we own it. When we left, we just turned off their secure combat network communications, their combat controllers for air support, their CASEVAC and medical support, we cut off their tactical intelligence (drones/satellites/SIGINT) and discontinued their resupply. We stripped them to their rifles. WTF were they supposed to do, facing an enemy that follows no rules, shows no mercy and has no compunctions to butchering your wife in the street like an animal and taking your 10 year old daughter, while you're at a hard day's work of running out of ammo and driving your blown up battle buddy 4hrs through gunfire, to an afghan community hospital.

Their training, equipment and experience is now the Taliban's. But again, the important part, is that we just took away all of their modern warfighting capabilities and reduced them to little more than security guards. Anyone who thinks they just quit because they're cowards, or incompetent, mark my words and wait for the insurgency this fall, when they restructure as a rebellion.
