If you look at history (which apparently no one does anymore) you'll see that Lenin and the Bolshevics believed that Society had to go through a period of Capitalism before Socialism could be introduced. He didn't believe that was going to happen in his lifetime, but when the military turned against the government he saw the opportunity to strike, and strike he did, causing the end of Russian participation in WWI with devastating consequences and the total collapse of the economy. Fun fact: When Lenin died, he had a personal cash reserve of $800 million dollars. Communism for thee, but not for me.
