  3. People always forget that in modern combat organization matters more than number. If you have 100 vs 100 but one side have better equipment and supply it could turn into 100 : 0 result. Basically soviet on the first half have poor equipment, organization and supply but gradualy improve over time to the point defeating the Germans on latter half.

  4. most of German documents of the eastern front are mostly destroyed by themself to prevent capture or captured by the red army and preserved in their archieve. What is left are momoirs from Generals that kicked from office by Hitler this include Guderian and Manstein. Most German generals that fight the Soviet army the longest are either dead in battle or capturend and sent to gulag and return in the 60s when public no longer intrested in hearing their story. Thus the most accurate information about the Germans always in the soviet hands.

  5. Yea but it still need to hit its target and with slow moving projectile it need to be arched up. Also at this moment 75mm HEAT at this time can only penetrate half of its diameter so its effective penetration is just 37.5mm, cant even penetrate the side of T-34. This is why HEAT need larger bore to be effective.

  6. Lol they are not technology superior. They are just disregard user safety for result. Long lance actually use wood casing and have low shelf life. A6M zero skip alot of armor for mobility that it will easily turn into ball of fire. Their ships are terrible for the crew. And their training require a lot of bullshitery like vit A supplement and have to wake up early in the morning not to damage your eyes.

Also IJA aircraft carrier is more like LST than actual carrier. In modern time this equal to heli carrier. Navy always want their own infantry. In most countries Marinier is part of Navy. Exept US since it got bloated as well and have their own aircraft, tanks, etc.

  10. I dont think they are supperior. Wood cassing and using propellant that everyone reject for safety reason. You defiantly dont want to sit behind Zero or crewing their ships. They have high casualty rate specially those who carry long lance. 6.5 Arisaka are not good enough for the period to the point they have to introduce 7.7. Btw German have chronic manpower issue that they start using conscript one week right after invading soviet union and keep lowering their minimum age while the soviet never issue general conscription. They also are not lacking iron and other raw material until Bagration in 1944. They just not efficient with production.

First you must know the size of organization 300-350 German Tanks are Panzer Division size while 800 german tanks are for the entire panzer corps. basically two panzer division for a single panzer corps and then two panzer army form single panzer corps. The number can vary depending state of readyness. Kursk is not the largest tank battle in eastern front. the largest is Brody in 1941, since there are 5 soviet mechanized corps involved and a single panzer army. About 5000 tanks total.

  27.  @John_B55  Simo Haya is local shooting champion. Also soviet sniper use dedicated equipment and logistic. They use different rifle than the rest and if its accuracy drop they will be given a new gun. They also shoot difrent match grade ammo since the rest use machinegun ammo.

And im talking to someone who suggest you only carry one mag. Im sure people choose to have k98 with clips than have to manually reload his magazine every time. You want to carry that reloading board every time? And the issue of kurtz cartrige not shared with other weapon is a serious one.

  31. Casualty figures tell nothing. More if your soldier have aversion to wear helmet in the age of machinegun and altillery. Not to mention equipment disparity. Standard soviet platoon should have at least a machine gun but because of DP shortages up to 1945 they can only be content with sub machinegun and single maxim in your company unless you are in Guard unit in which you get a DP gun in your platoon and two maxims in your company. While Germans have the luxury of equipping all of their platoons with MG 34. Reverse their equipment and the casualty figure also reversed.

  32. The defeat at Brody is because logistic issue. It just impossible to supply 5 soviet mechanized corps at that time. The soviet undergo several reform on their tank forces by shrinking them to managable level.

They are very close to their troops because they have limited amount of radio and most of his orders must be relayed with runners and his staff car is a big bulseye "please attack here" for the stukas. Even when he was prmoted as the commander of 62nd he always at the front, just few meters from the battle lines. Even when 62nd change name to 8th Guards he always at the front, became the conqueror of Berlin.

  35. BcroG11 Well, the Germans do have advantage of having more MG and AT gun up to 43 then the soviet have the advantage. Its easy to win aganst superior number of enemy if they only armed with mossin nagant when you have teams of mg 34 on your side. The soviet dont have similiar equipment untill post war when they modernized their DP gun. But up to taht point they have to deal german MG team the hard way.

  40. Well that tell us you know nothing about the subject. All sources from German perpective are from memoirs written by generals captured in the west and edited by themself, and if you want to see surviving german combat record you can try Russian archieve.

  41. yea but the battle report used by Glantz and House are not propaganda. It just you never read or watch Glanz/House presentation. Here is the truth most of the materials from the German side are memoirs while the source from Russian side are report. you want to know about Glantz report on why Soviet casualty are high? Lack of machine gun in platoon. Soviet can only have 1 mg per company while Germans can have up to 4. This is why Soviet always have trouble in both assault and defense while Germans have easier time. I dont know what propaganda can be manufactured from this fact. Other fact found from the archieve the high casualty suffered earlier is because lack of helmet or they choose not to wear them for various reason.

  42. Lol no, Soviet unit are smaller than German, thus easier to be reinforced or keep at 100%. German unit are larger and because they dont have reliable reinforcement their units are often way below 100%. Even if the soviet have twice manpower they dont throw double number of soldier in battle. Those extra soldier are held in reserve to quickly replace any losses they had.

  44. First the soviet have worse pharmaceutical industry and medical personel (they have more coimmisar (200 men) than medic (100med) in a division (10000men). Second both Germans and Soviet have different counting method. The soviet will count sick the Germans wont. The same with tank losses. the Germans will only count total losses as loss while not going to count inoperable as loss until certain time. Thats why in their report their tank losses are low but at the end of the campaign it suddenly rocketed up. The Soviet will count every losses (permanent, temporary, damaged, sabotaged) as losses, daily. Thats why their losses always higher than their inventory. (a tank battalion only have 21 tanks at full strenght but can reporting that they lost 40 tanks).

The Russian already learning welding technique from US in 1930s, even the British have problem with mass weld. The flaw with Germany welding technique is the reason why their tanks took long time to produce and often disintegrate when hit by high explosive. I cant imagine Italian can switch from rivet to weld that fast without problems.
