Memoir written years after the event are worthless. How on earth people don't disarm surrendered troops. He probably kill some POW and try to justify his action by writing that BS because it haunt him.

His elastic defense still need fuel which they don't have and it only worked once on overextended enemy. Also worth mentioned that he was double the size of his enemies on his "miracle defense" of Kharkov.

@fazole Because human brains works that way. People tends to rewrite their to event that they "WANT" to happen. That's why statue of limitation exist. memoirs are the worst example of what happen in the past specially when it was written long after the event itself. That's why people use combat record or logistic record which was written on the same day to write history book. You can put memoirs next to historical fiction in terms of accuracy.

@fazole It could benefit him politically. Specially when everyone dislike US involved in Vietnam. If you falsify battle record, it will fuck your own perception of the battle and you will ended up loosing. Do you know why Germans failed with their own intel? Because they falsify their own battle record. They are notorious to over estimate their own performance like kill count. Michel Whitman is one of the case, he reported he destroy 16 kampfwagen but in the battle record it was stated he destroy 16 panzerkampfwagen. Leaving the Germans having amazing kill ratio but still lose the battle/war. Yes, you should dismiss them if they are using memoirs not battle record.

@fazole They need months to gather that amount. Allies took time to defeat Germany because rushing things wont end well (see the Soviet). Manstein as well as Guderian are overrated. And they sucks at logistic because that Prussian doctrine.

@fazole No, their problem is they try to move large amount of troops instead smaller sizes like the soviet did. The soviet only have 6 tank armies but they use them often while the Germans have 7-8 panzer army and they are double the size of the Russian. They eventually make it smaller but its already too late.

You don't have to be a Nazi to commit war crime. Manstein is not party member but he was on record burning Ukraine to the ground, good enough to be on the Gallows.

@No1important88 There are differences between soviet killing soviet civilian and Germans killing soviet civilian. And yes there are moral superiority from Soviet/Western side to the Germans. Both Soviet/Western try their best to lower civilian casualty as low as they can while the Germans try to maximize them. I don't see any serious crime Commited by the Allies worth the gallows. Its clear they never try to actively maximize the damage to the civilian or the POW. Try name one so I can learn them.

@No1important88 Is that under military order or someone who just lost his family getting out of hand? So far as it goes there are no systematic killing of Germans even by the soviet. Deportation is part of the post war deal to appease the soviet who want more head rolling and have nothing to do with war crimes. Also do you even realize its originally Slavic land even just few centuries ago, not millennia?

Even the interviewed soviet female soldier lost their sympathy because of that. Do you even realize those land belongs to Duchy of Poland.

@No1important88 Poles, Chechz, Slovak, Croat, Bulgars, Serbs, Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian are all slavs. Im pretty sure that applies to all soviet citizen as well. Justice exist and if you don't want what they did to your civilian, never do the same to theirs in the first place.
