Someone needs to make a dramatic movie about the moment where things turn from the innocence of advertising to the seriousness of complete technical political oppression.   2. Rob, I appreciate how you continue learning and reporting on it for us! Now I learn how what I thought was my idiosyncratic penchant for learning to type my comments has paid off in privacy! Also the fact that where I live, ANY phone use while in the driver's seat is illegal. Other benefits to non-speech recognition: I would type my comments so I'd remember what I said - my memory is in my fingers. I noticed a loss of memory capacity when I started to forget phone numbers because I was no longer punching on keys when I called. I used to know by heart around 300-400 phone numbers in the past - but now, mostly the numbers are in my contact list, not in my memory.

It never occurs to them that the device needs to hear and recognize this "WakeUp word." I have a blind friend who uses these services for a reason - but he isolates the "voice services" away from where he talks on the phone and to other people in person.

But now these cases and other legal information has been made restricted. It happened because lawyers sued those who were providing this content as a public service. Obviously, lawyers have a vested interest in forcing those people who were providing legal content to stop...so the lawyers can be paid to do so. Lawyers now have a monopoly on a great deal more of legal content - because they can sue content providers and eliminated this content.

  24. On Rob's channel page, he's got an older video about using a hot spot and a VOIP software to connect a phone call through Wifi. Then your smart phone is "once removed" and doesn't have to use it's SIM to make calls. (The Hot Spot contains the SIM instead, which doesn't have all that info that a Smartfone contains.) Rob's suggestion about using a hot spot is a bit much to carry around and not so convenient - but it's much more private.

  27. Getting to know what your VPN provider does with your information takes research. I like BytzVPN's reputation. BytzVPN is always updating its servers. So those of us who use it,(without the BraxRouter) must manually connect to different locations on a routine basis. But the BraxRouter, all you need to do to update is to turn it off and on again & it uploads the updates automatically. Much easier.

  28. WiFi triangulation is embedded in the hardware. This "promiscuous WIFI" is searching for open WiFi signals whether the info is coming to YOU or not. It cannot be turned off, the WiFi information on location is going to Apple no matter what your own "setting" is set at.

Rob doesn't have records of who bought his phone if the person paid with a secure means, such as a Postal money order, etc. He's only got the possibly fingerprinted associated user name on Brax.me - which could be anyone. Rob also has in place with us the notification that we can ask him this question at any time. If he has been limited by a "gag order" not to say, then he's agreed with all of us beforehand that he will not reply. Otherwise, we can trust him to deny it has happened. But for instance, his VPN has no logs so there's nothing for the three letter agencies to get from him. My biggest question always has been what will happen to Rob (as it eventually must) when all of these "workarounds" stop working and there is no possibility of privacy at all?

  38. OK, why do lawyers say: Don't talk to authorities without a lawyer present? Now imagine all the stuff you say when you imagine nobody is listening, but in fact, you are being recorded. Think of all the sarcastic, double meaning "funny" stuff you have said. If you ever imagined meeting a really rich person and falling in love, they wouldn't have anything to do with you if you hadn't protected your privacy. The way you click on Terms of Service without reading - you wouldn't ever realize it if you're doing things that are against the agreement! Do you want your health insurers to have your health history and info about all of your possibly unhealthy habits such as how often you exercise, what you eat, the fat or sickly people you hang out with, etc.? How about your car insurance prices? Your landlord? The people who are about to loan you lots of money? What if you, unknowingly, happen to know someone who knows a terrorist, a gang member, a mafia member? You don't know any of that, but you've been profiled and you won't be able to do anything about your status at the airport about it. Would you like to be only shown things that cater to people who you've been type-cast with, when you're deliberately searching outside of your own 'caste?' What if your next employer doesn't like something you said online expressing an opinion that is political and so doesn't hire you? What if you're a writer or an activist and want to research things that you're never going to do but must know to do to create a story? Do you want it to be a matter of record that you were interested in "objectionable content?" But it's stuff that you need for your journalism or story writing... Anyway, I'll stop this list, but perhaps you get the idea now why privacy is worth fighting for What do you think now?

  46. Well, you don't really have to go that far. Just living below your means will identify you to the system as a "loser," because you will not be getting richer over time with "goal-setting." (Telemarketers and scammers will continue to target you because of the assumption that, "poor people are stupid.") Pretty much the idea is to become disregarded by the corporate powers that have turned the public who they're supposed to be serving into products who corporations can suck money from on a regular basis. Essentially, you state by your actions that, "I'm not donating because I have no money." A few conditions though for this to be an option. It's handy if you have avoided incurring debt; or resolve to never borrow anything ever. It's also handy if you take advantage of public donations to help the poor - but this can get complicated depending on your situation, especially if you're male. The trickiest part is staying away from getting harvested into the jail system - don't entertain yourself with vices. This will reassure real people that they will not be "wasting" their support of helping you when you need help, (you WILL get into some sort of legal or bureaucratic trouble, because this process is designed to gain money from those in your poverty category.)

  49. First, you can use "duckduckgo.com" for searches instead of Google. Also for searches: "startpage.com" which uses google heuristics, but without tracking what you're searching. You can go to the maker of the app or program - (their website) and download directly from the programmer of the app. People who make programs and apps market them on Google Play, but that's just one place to get programs and apps. There are others, such as Aurora Store - which creates a fictitious Google user and downloads the phone app for you. F-Droid for instance is an app store that has nothing to do with Google. There are also many reputable download sites.

For instance, without notice, WhatsApp site can change its TOS (Terms Of Service) for business users and can wipe out everything a business did on the WhatsApp site, (especially carefully collected contact lists.) Essentially, you're investing in WhatsApp, not your own business, because the site you're doing all your advertising wasn't yours. Better to put effort into your own domain and use WhatsApp to explain and refer people to your own website.

  94. Yes, It's as if there's a complete shift of the definition of "business ethics." A friend of mine quipped, "They can do whatever you cannot stop them from doing." Judges can "legislate from the bench" based on public policies which were never passed as a law. If you don't have money, you can't afford to fight for your rights that are being disappeared every day. That's why this issue of privacy is so important - it's one area where we can fight to retain what little privacy we still possess. This "legal lying" has been going on for a really long time, this shift. I noticed this happening right after the RICO act was passed. (1980s) In the USA (Since the RICO act) it's legal to lie verbally. But you can't lie in a contract, supposedly - because lying would invalidate being able to make all contracts. So I now write down statements of what I do and do not permit and get them notarized. I do this so some "Authority" figure cannot lie that I permitted them to do what they must verbally ask me to do. However, Rob has collected an OPSEC of strategies to help protect user privacy that really do cut back on much of the problem. Legal protect isn't likely - because the people involved would have to LEARN technology to know what they're legislating about....and they won't or don't have the time for that.

  128. Here's how I protect myself: Don't use your credit/debit card to pay. Instead, connect to PayPal. To set up Paypal, connect to a bank "savings" account (one that you do not use for any other purpose.) (So you'd need to set that up at the bank before you setup Paypal.) Then when you want to buy - use only Paypal. Only transfer enough $$ in it to buy things right before you need to pay, (I do that by phone.) Otherwise, keep that account with only $5. or something minimal in it. that way, if PayPal ever gets compromised, the account you have connected to it only has $5.10 in it. (My Credit Union will not allow that $5. to be spent because it must be there to keep the account open.) Then at the bank/Credit Union, set up your accounts to refuse payment instead of providing "overdraft protection." You won't have to pay those high fees again and the "embarrassment" of having your payment refused I thought was an acceptable trade-off!

You can have electricity - solar or generator...and you can have water: from the roof if it rains enough or by a stream. It's the phone that bites that I'd miss to call 911 if someone got injured. Your phone's hardware is sending your location to Google by seeking possible WiFi networks to connect to - you cannot turn this off. (As you have discovered, your ability to connect with WiFi has nothing to do with a SIM phone number ability.) The list Rob made at 10:08 is what is being broadcast by your phone while being connected to Internet via WiFi at the restaurant. Doesn't matter if you're signed into Google or not. But while using Wifi, cell towers are not involved. Wifi "teathers" you to the (often 30 ft. radius) wifi signal; but it's who knows YOU because who owns the wifi might not be YOU. When you use a cell tower your phone provider knows you, when you're using Wifi and a phone app to call - who you are known as depends on how you created the account and how you logged in on that user name.

  552. I haven't looked into the TOR browser option within Brave and would love to also know the answer to your question. Do you know about Rob's idea he calls "Browser Isolation"? It's categorizing your interests, one to a browser. The advantage is the multiple browsers cannot index your activity between them because they're owned by different companies. So they can only keep track of what you're telling them on their own browser without knowing what you're doing on another browser. I do know that when you download TOR browser without using a VPN, you're on a three letter agency list. Rob has a paid VPN called BytzVPN. It has a TOR VPN option, which is slower but that can be an advantage because the TOR is not just a browser but ALL your activities, such as email, sending and downloading files, etc.

People often won't respond to a duplicated post, (sometimes because the duplication is a kind of spamming,) but also because they don't know where the collection of responses are clustered. Tricky because you "forget" all the spots where you did post also. Also - I've found people won't respond to a long post, where multiple points are being made.

  555. To reply to the post itself, what about the idea to find a list of restaurants in my area that are "requiring" vax cards - determined solely by the restaurants themselves in my area. Then I can go to them and do what you suggest, hopefully harassing the management and not the underpaid workers. In Braxman's case, the whole town of L.A. was required to ask for Vax cards by a new law/policy - so the restaurant owners were facing legal action if they didn't comply, which was not their fault directly.

Turns out they were using an old phone number that he'd never updated when he changed his number years ago. Finally I reminded him that he had used one of my emails as a recovery email - and Google figured out that was his ONLY option. Now this guy has a written "password book," LOL.

Once you go to a site, (if you do not have a VPN to hide your IP address,) you are being recorded after having arrived at those websites. Just run the live USB that you make to check out if all of the features on the computer will work under that specific distro - if everything works, then install it!
