If you're not a programmer - and you don't have a reliable template from another programmer who's degoogled your specific phone - you' re going to "brick your phone" while you're trying to learn how to degoogle it. How would you evaluate "reliable Template??! Check out the phone that Rob Braxman's degoogle list by looking in the brax.me phone FAQ and in the STORE on Brax.me. (If you can't afford Rob Braxman's prices in the "store," the cheapest deal is: you can buy a phone (on Rob's list) online that can be "OEM unlocked" (Rob coaches you how to check for this so you can have the seller check before he sends you the wrong phone.) Then you can send the phone to Rob for $130. degoogling. This approach will save you many, many hours of time and inevitable learning curve mistakes - and you'll end up with a very cool degoogled smartphone. There are pretty complete instructions on Brax.me for certain OEM unlocked phones - but none of them are "flip" phones. Join Brax.me and under "blogs" search in the hash tag section for: #degooglepluslinux to check this out.

@davids6533 No, it's not simple to preserve your privacy - and it's directly connected to how the technology works - which has been designed to "categorize and index." The original purpose was how to make people being online pay off and it's answer became: to sell ads. But an upsetting part is becoming obvious. The list of why to act to regain your privacy is huge! This "innocent" ad purpose can too expediently be switched to complete totalitarianism. Pretty soon, being able to predict "what will people do" is going to be gambled with, like "futures" in the stock market. If you happen to know someone who knows a gang member, it's been applied to "pre-crime" police harassment. It will make possible preventing inventors from patenting their nascent ideas, the case rights of clients in law and counseling. Even right now, if you attend an AA or NA meeting, it's not private anymore. If I visit a friend with cancer, I get ads that assume I have cancer... Your grand kids cannot make any mistake before they're an adult without being punished for it their entire lives.

Once you install a version of Linux, you can be sure the computer itself will not have any "pre-installed" malware - because malware is software and you're replacing the entire OS - Operating System that runs any software. On this channel, Rob has made a "short" on how he sets up his Win10 laptops - if you want to use a "dual boot" routine where you can use both Windows AND Linux. Search: "setup" or go to this link: https://youtu.be/QHPJirrluT8

Any used computer will do to install Linux on it - of course, the more RAM the better. Just run the live USB that you make to check out if all of the features on the computer will work under that specific distro - if everything works, then install it! If all the features on that PC don't work, try another distro. Once installed, the distro will run much faster.
