Yes, many of us with de-googled phones have a "Normie" phone for 2FA and those apps that will not run on the degoogled phone - with NO contacts on it and we don't give out that number to anyone to call us on it.

@maccagrabme I keep learning new programs and apps...

@stuartedge5906 One of the laptops I had bought (a Lenova) made it impossible to install LInux because they had diced up the hard drive to take up, gratuitously, all of the possible number of hard drives allowed. I had to check out which ones to delete that were completely unnecessary in order to be able to have one of them be able to run Linux USB!

yeah, they never did figure out how to prevent children from getting into adult areas of the Internet...

You're right, technological design falls short of protecting privacy - when it COULD be designed into programs - it's not. However, Rob has collected an OPSEC of strategies to help protect user privacy that really do cut back on much of the problem. Much is free behavior change, such as taking your Real Name off and using nicknames only. Check out: Browser Isolation as a tactic. Legal protect isn't likely - because the people involved would have to LEARN technology to know what they're legislating about....and they won't or don't have the time for that.

@crazysquirrel9425 we used to call that - "sneaker network" Because it was done with your shoes and also it's kinda sneaky

@jeffpricefamily3905 Yes, especially if you're 18 right now, copyright your name as if you're Frank Sinatra and impose high $$ penalties for using it without your permission. Then they cannot name you as their "strawman." If you ever get to court and they refuse to recognize this, you can state that you're only cooperating "under duress", which makes all implied contracts invalid because they were coerced.
2
yeah, and I happened to get a laptop with version of Win 11 with "S" version on it. I couldn't log into Microsoft to turn off this feature that restricts all downloads of programs from the Microsoft Store. I packaged up the laptop I bought and returned it. Why go through the hassle?

Things just look different on Linux - that's all. Linux Mint is very similar to Windows the way it's organized. If you get confused, hover over every single tiny little thing and see if it's a link leading somewhere else where you'll get another menu. You can't really "break things" with Linux because it's so easy to re-install it.

yes, and ask them if they would enjoy having an advertiser tell them they have cancer ten times a day...which would be suggestion enough for some people to GIVE Them cancer!!

figure out if your Pixel is OEM unlockable by searching the FAQ in Brax.me - which is Rob's site. IF it can be OEM unlocked, send it to Rob - for $130 he will turn your Pixel into a degoogled phone with Calyx on it - because Calyx will easily update itself.

Re: your list of laptops that run Linux - Ubuntu has a list for many, many laptops suitable for their OS. It's at: https://ubuntu.com/certified/laptops

most parents are horrified to realize that they have less and less control over their kids as these kids hit the teen years - when the teen peers have more of an effect than the parents ever did.

freaky
1
yeah, I'm scared that day isn't really too far in the future...
1
that's unfortunate to hear about, thanks.
1
nah. Doesn't work that way. But more power to you!
1
yeah, it's sort of a curse to be too far ahead of your time in your ability to predict. Smart people need to learn more communication skills so they can bring others up to speed when they invent or can predict from what they've learned.
1
figure out if your Pixel is OEM unlockable by searching the FAQ in Brax.me - which is Rob's site. IF it can be OEM unlocked, send it to Rob - for $130 he will turn your Pixel into a degoogled phone with Calyx on it - without any risk of your Pixel getting "bricked."
1
this is a really astute analysis - definitely worth reading especially if you have the ability to program. Thanks!
1
yes, head over to Brax.me - and go to the STORE to get yourself a degoogled Pixel right now.
1
yeah, unfortunately I just bought a tool that doesn't have a Linux version - shoulda looked at that before I bought it. But I can still keep a Window machine somewhere...
1
yeah, except that now the new models are sold as if the user is "renting the use of" whatever service is being provided by the hardware.
1
Yeah; partly it's because people have NO idea how much info FB is collecting on them. See the YT title: "Facebook is Worse Than You Think: Whistleblower Reveals All" an interview by Rich Roll or the book by Frances Haugen "Power of One"
1
cheapest way to get a degoogled phone is to go on Brax.me to the FAQ and find: "OEM unlockable" This will tell you how to buy a used Pixel phone online for cheap that has the right capacity to be degoogled by Rob. Once sure your Pixel can be OEM unlocked (not merely carrier unlocked) send it off to Rob with an additional $130. When you get it back - you'll have the cheapest version of a properly degoogled phone. Presto!! As far as Linux goes, just get an old computer from someone else and download LInux Mint or Ubuntu Linux (directions how to make a run-from-USB are online) and install it. How old are your kids? Get the kids to do install Linux to the old computerlator??

yes, I usually translate, sometimes to their face - It's for YOUR cybersecurity safety of your company, not my personal safety.
1
I really enjoy what a great teacher Rob is and I've been watching him for many years. He just continues to learn and teach us...
1
yes, as if the only reason someone would want privacy is to break the law. Wouldn't we need to come up with ten totally accessible reasons why regular people need their privacy...that has nothing to do with breaking the law?
1
For Pixels, Rob offers degoogling for only $130. Come to Brax.me to make sure you get the right Pixel (50% are OEM unlockable, not just carrier unlocked) and then you can send it off to Rob.
1
@lordxan1 It's going to be interesting to see the gradual loss of privacy that's probably going to be legislated away.
1
Rob is a great teacher and he's been almost psychic in his technological predictions over time
1
yes, grownups don't like the stupidity of learning something new. All of us who love privacy need to get better at teaching skills so others won't be so repelled by our sense of what's important
1
Ok - let's hear... more of what you have to say, please?
1
...the question is: How do we "fight" for our rights? Think it's maybe better to sidestep for our rights...
1
good question. Come to brax.me and ask it there and you'll get an answer...
1
I always enjoyed how Linux was sort of a programmer's portfolio of their best work.
1
Yes, using the strategy of spammers can be done for really positive missions also. Check out Rob's email solution in BraxMail that he offers that's better and more effective than ProtonMail could ever be. Signup for it on Brax.me - it takes some learning to setup, but once you do, you'll understand the limitations of email much, much better.
1
good point. How will patents be enforced as they are being designed if encryption isn't allowed?
1
yes, we all should be learning how to code.
1
Yeah, those of us who want to convince others that privacy is important need to get better at convincing them. I've found one of the best methods is to just grab their phone and install "brax.me' (Rob's social network and support site) with a username and password that's easy for them to remember and go then when you're logged in as them, start a chat with you. Then go from there...
1
There used to be "linux user groups" that met in person. But with the creation of Ubuntu and after Covid, that doesn't happen anymore. Perhaps they have resumed in your area if you live in a town?
1
Good point - you have suspicions of a linguistic prof
1
Join Rob and the rest of us on Rob's social networking and group support site: Brax.me Hope to see you there!

English is a second language for Rob - even though he speaks it as if it's his native language.
