To piggyback a bit off of Jonathan's last post, about us perhaps misunderstanding something....
I've had a silly idea on dark matter/energy, that could apply here, as well. 🤔
So to try and summarize it, my thinking is:
What we are attributing to 'Dark Matter', could perhaps be matter that had existed in the universe, but, had been consumed by black holes. That the matter is accumulating, to borrow from Sci-Fi, in regions of "sub-space" that are created by the black hole. They are out of direct 'view' (observation) due to not existing in our visible universe, but are still under the surface and exhibiting some or all of their influence; some as gravity (mass), some as Dark Energy.
To put it in an analogy... think of how we depict gravity in 2D, where am object is pulling down on a plane, creating a concave region. NOW, think of dark matter as I've explained it above, as lumps and ridges... Like your body underneath a blanket.
So perhaps the sun creates this dip in the fabric, but, just before Mercury is a ridge which once an object travels by, is now on a bit of a downhill slope; thus, giving said object a slight acceleration as it slides down...
(my thought on Dark Energy is a little more simple: since the universe behaves in macro, as particles do even in micro, that perhaps galaxies have "poles" and behave much as magnets do... where a galaxy might have it's + pole facing another galaxy's +, pushing them away from each other; some may be even monopoles, strictly + or - and no matter how they're oriented, will always be attracted or repelled towards galaxies of an opposite charge 😅🤷♂️🤷♂️)
