  1. In another thread, they pointed out that inflatable balloons are a no-go, as the ocean's pressure exceeds the tank's output pressure. In other words, nothing would be able to inflate. Even bathyscaphe submersibles used gasoline as a ballast, due to it being lighter than water (buoyant) and incompressible. But those used thousands of gallons as ballast, which is just out of the question for use in this scenario.

  2. Honorable Mention goes to "bathyscaphes", which can go a bit deeper (~11000m); however, are functionally useless for rescue... 🫤 (I don't think they have much lateral movement capability, and wouldn't be able to do any searching)

  4. People are saying there's too great of pressure down there to use inflatable ballast to float it. ROVs are tethered with a steel cable though (for the remote control communication lines to attach to), so that's the best course of action. I'm kind of surprised this vessel wasn't tethered... Lessons to be learned I guess. 😔
