First off, Alex, for the love of dog, please don't say "simp" ever again lol It's a stupid term that gets thrown around way too easily, but more importantly, inaccurately so. Giving small, yet valid compliments are enough to invoke being called such! Just as you being a fan of your own country's military prowess doesn't make you one. 😉
With that out of the way, the "non-combatants" issue presented, I genuinely feel is just not a factor for them REGARDLESS. After seeing what ol Puddin Pants will authorize, I sincerely doubt that China is any different. Not unless it's a battle on their own turf, but even then I'm not certain they'd care much... I mean, look at how many space launches they did where spent stages were coming down in or near villages! I believe that's changed recently, but it might just be a case of no longer using that particular model of rocket. (admittedly I don't pay THAT cost of attention to that situation, I just know those incidents haven't been in the space news roundups by any of the various channels I watch)
[edit: Yea... the next part about "ethics dumping" really just proves my point, I feel 🥴 If they're ok with doing those things, they're undoubtedly not going to mind if an AI goes slightly off-script during missions, if the overall effectiveness is high enough.
I also kinda doubt they jailed dude for the years for those CRISPR edits, and even if they did, only had done so for optics reasons, and will want him to continue that research afterwards. I mean come on, genre exciting has "super soldier" written all over it, and if you can have them be super right out of the womb, that seems even better vs hoping those edits will yield the desired changes in adults...]
