  2. The Flux Capacitor wasn't what propelled the DeLorean, it just did the time travel wizardry. It still used a gas engine in the first (2?) movie(s) with plutonium to generate the electricity (an RTG basically, like used in space probes and some Mars rovers), replaced by Mr. Fusion in the second one. (I don't recall what was used in the third, only that the train was what got it up to speed)
