2:35 That swarm scene makes me wonder if such a thing could be used as a dynamic "netting" to take down incoming cruise missiles, one-way drones, or glide bombs? Basically like the scene in Guardians of the Galaxy where all the fighter crafts link up to hold back the giant battle cruiser spaceship.
The general cruising altitude if the former us kinda well known, so it's not like they would have to make a "shield of drones" that extends to really high in the air. And despite strategically being a "bad idea", it wouldn't surprise me if Ruz used certain flight corridors for their munitions to travel, which if true would mean you wouldn't need wide "shields", either.
The question would really be whether impact with a hovering drone woke be sufficient to down any of said munitions, or if they'd need payloads of their own. My hope would be the former being the case, as having thousands of payloads hovering is asking for trouble, given that even one falling due to unexpected battery failure could result in collateral damage of friendly non-combatants. So even if equipping them with a chunk of tungsten (equal to said payload's mass) is enough to make it kinetically sufficient, that's a better play in my eyes.
edit: After thinking about it, I removed "cruise missiles" since I have a feeling that MOST would have hardened nose sections so that they can easily penetrate any number of objects; therefore, would easily breeze through a drone, potentially even with a small payload. The other ones shown, which I can't name due to the automoderation system unfairly targeting me [thanks Ruz war trolls!], that Alex said would technically be classifiable as a cruise missile, are what I meant by "one-way drones".
