  1. Skipping projectiles is quite an interesting phenomena! I have a .177 cal Gamo pellet rifle, rated at 1000 ft/sec with standard lead rounds. I've managed to so-accurately skip them off the Kenai River (which is massive and wide), that after a number of tries, I managed to HIT the No Trespassing sign posted on a tree on the other side (at roughly the same height above the water as I was shooting). The most interesting thing, was I was aiming above the target by the amount I thought would be needed to directly hit it, only to fall well short of it, but still end up hitting it thanks to skipping off the water! 🤯 Also despite the river being noisy due to a submerged rock causing turbulence, I could still hear the impact on the water (a soft 'slap'), and then a split-second later the thwack against the wood sign. I don't really have an estimate of distance, as I was shooting diagonally down river, but I figure to the sign it had to be about 175ft. Based on the significantly smaller splash, my pellet must have been falling short roughly 1/3rd the way. [disclaimer: I'm firearms safety trained and am in no way putting anyone in danger – one of the golden rules is "Know what you're shooting at and what is behind it". The property is not fished by the owner as the bank is too steep, it's also covered by a dense forest, and is immediately backed by a huge hill; therefore, even shooting 100ft too high would not pose a risk of hitting anyone or anything... besides trees... and maybe a squirrel lol]
