@Alpha99333 I don't disagree that it's stupid to do this voluntarily when a camera and ballistic dummy are just as good, but... I'm pretty sure that's the whole point of signing a waiver, no?
At the end of the day, if smart and/or sane people want to do stupid things which might render them unalive... well, they have my blessing. 😅
And yet, it's really no different than what an astronaut does. They've done the science, then they ran simulations, then built a test article and run it through its paces, then sent it skyward to collect even more data, only to build a completely new one* to strap human beings to – it's a calculated risk that science deems should be safe, but it's still a risk.
[* prior to SpaceX pioneering reusable Stage 1 rockets, which everyone else still does it the old way (at least for now), expending everything but the capsule every launch, and thereby having to build everything brand new for the next time]
