@Lee T I don't know if there's a need to test with them having sat in the cold? They showed them coming out of a dewar of liquid nitrogen (possibly dry ice, but more likely LN2).
I'm sure they've also tested them at high-heat temperatures for extended periods, but that would still be my concern, as there would be a larger shift in thermal cycling as you go from peak day heat to lowest night coolness temps, rinse & repeat for 5 months. (add in occasional UV exposure if they're getting reused; black want a great choice there).

Initially came here to say I'm also not thrilled by the use of plastic since at least metal ones are able to be reused by anyone, in that you can collect and smelt them down. UV damaged polycarbonate... not so useful when re-melted lol
However, with they're being a weight savings, I'm less critical of that. Right now I'm all for anything that helps Ukrainian soldiers, and if it means every 5 or 6 full belts now saves a belt's worth of weight, then more can be transported! (space permitting) 🤘

@zoiders I don't have any semblance of explosives knowledge; however, even then I've been able to follow along in this conversation to have very easily understood that they're using a high-speed explosive for its ability to send tiny shrapnel outwards at a similar high velocity.
They're taking apart a round that was already meant to disable armor, so they're obviously not trying to replace that.
Their goal is to make something that's far more effective at wrecking a person's day by both direct and indirect means. They have internal objects plus the sharp fragments of the vessel, in order to rip into people. They also have a large amount of HS explosive to quickly disperse them... but as I see it, that also offers a great side benefit of creating a high-speed shockwave that will undoubtedly cause permanent hearing loss to anyone inside the building/vehicle, or significant temporary hearing loss to them; both are great outcomes.
If you can't hear the enemy approaching, you're as good as dead, and I think it's pretty safe to assume that hearing protection is likely the last thing on the list of "essentials" that the Russians have to buy on their own dime! Actual ballistic body armor and a helmet that can do more than stop a baseball, any semblance of night vision or thermal optics, those in sure take priority. 🥴
So as far as I can tell, this improvised round achieved the end-goal, even if it takes a few extra bullets after... Where at the end of the day, this is point and shot, whereas any trap laid still relies on some poor bastard triggering it. We've already seen plenty of Russian-left boobytraps that have been discovered and disarmed... no reason to think the obverse doesn't, or couldn't happen. 🤷♂️
Just my 2-observational-¢ worth. ✌️

@paulfredriksteiner The funny thing is, no matter what the final result is... Russia will be the only true loser!
The world has turned their back on Russia. The only countries that want anything to do with you anymore is China and India.... maybe North Korea, just because "Hello new friend! We are social pariah, too!" 😏
But seriously, even then, China doesn't actually give a shit about Russia, the only thing they are interested in is to make money off of them! I'm genuinely not sure if China would bother to ally with Russia if WWIII did start...
India? Not sure they care much about Russia either, as their involvement with Russia is mainly for their military exports! (tanks, jets, etc)
Politically, Russia is the laughing stock of the world. They flexed as being this mighty unstoppable force that was going to roll into Ukraine and have the keys handed over.... Well, how'd that work out for you?
Then it was 3 months to take Ukraine..... Mmmm nope
The only, and I genuinely mean only reason Russia has managed to gain the ground they have is due to numbers, and that's it.
Superior fighters? NOPE! With western support, Ukrainian soldiers are proving to be far more capable! Russia just has more of them to throw to the slaughter.
Superior weapons? NOPE! With western support, Russia is currently at a disadvantage in terms of who has the better assets. Russia just has more of them to deploy.
Superior tactics? FUCK NO! Russia's deployment has been a shitshow from day 1. They've somehow managed to achieve a military milestones of most high-ranking officers killed on the front lines! Not to mention... things have been going so horrible that Fuhrer-Tsar Voldemort Puddin has also fired who knows how many and felt it necessary to make himself the commander of this war machine...
Last but not least.... You trolls...
You all have the worst (see: dumbest, lamest) comments...
I sincerely hope it's because you don't REALLY believe in this war, and so you feign support by making the weakest possible effort you can, not in how your rhetoric actually impacts opinion, but simply in a hope it's enough to convince your Russian Troll Farm Overlords so you get paid...
And let's be clear... we all hate Russia right now, but we DO NOT HATE RUSSIANS! Her people are not to blame, even the ones that are brainwashed into support. It's your government we despise and your leader. This is Putin's war, and he's only waging it because he's bored of life and wants some excitement.... how sad and disgusting is that?
Rise up against Putin - Viva la Russolución! ✊🇷🇺

@dankovac1609 First off: Any reply where the end-goal is to have a "civil conversation", is... well, awesome, and what we all should strive for! (at least, when the other[s] are not obvious trolls... lol)
Even if it's a disagreement with what they've said, they're no reason one can't start off with:
"I see where your coming from, but I'm not sure I
can agree, because..... [>insert reasoning or your
opinion; use sound logic, include any experience
and/or relevant credentials you may have<]"
Back on topic though, what you said had spurred a further thought — It could very well, at least in part, be made the way it is, as... to use a cringey phrase... a " shock and awe" round.
After all, it's:
- visually bigger, by comparison to a regular RPG round
- heavier, more room = more harm-doing stuff packed in,
and obviously so, due to its now-arched trajectory
- bright-ass red, so I imagine you can see it if positioned
side-on, whilst it flies at your comrades
- bigger and louder boom, different from anything else
All together?
The little-to-no-training Russians civilians in fatigues Soldiers must be thinking Ukraine now has been given some kind of new, yet strange and vibrantly colored, weapon....
"🤔 It doesn't fly, look, or act like an RPG AT-round...
It sounds like one when launched, but doesn't when
it goes off...
Yet it does still have AT penetratration...
But has a much bigger explosion, and with shrapnel...
Except it's not a mortar, because clearly it's propelled...
I mean honestly? It looks like they took a fire
extinguisher, packed it full of plasticized explosive
and ball bearings....
THEN after all of that, crammed an RPG in the middle!
But that's just absurd, and nobody would do that, right? 😅
....R-right?!
🤨 😒 😟 😰😢 🥺
. . . . B l y a t . . . .
I WANNA GO HOooOOME!!! 😭"
–Intercepted Russian Phone Call, probably...
😏
Sorry, I get carried away, but get a kick out of coming up with these absurd scenario conversations! 😊🤣
(because look who you're talking to, and... ☝️... yea,
you needn't worry about the length of your reply... lol)

@skateboardingjesus4006 Then what causes them to eventually crack and/or crumble (when put under load)?
[sincere question, not being a smartass]
My window blinds eventually had an internal (but not sealed away from light) component fail, where the plastic pieces fractured. Some of them, the plastic was degraded so bad that if I squeezed and rolled them in my fingers they kinda turned into a coarse powder...
But that's not my only example... Leave a 5 gal bucket outside and it, too, becomes extremely brittle, where the plastic breaks under stress. Sometimes it'll break just from picking up the empty bucket quote grabbing the rim.
In the one case, the plastic is climate controled.
In the other case, it's under the heat and humidity of Tennessee.
The only commonality is sun exposure, which is why I figured it's UV damage.
(I've also heard, whether it's true I don't know, what having plastic in the sun can cause them to leech out some of their chemicals into whatever liquid they contain. [eg using buckets with water outside for pets to drink out of] But that's to be taken with a grain of salt...)
