  1. Point for 1nfamy: using a substantially smaller, lighter, and slower round is not a great way to hone a long time shooter's skills, in my opinion. Point for D Walter: training a firearm novice or total newcomer to a platform, with the gun chambered in the varmint round, gets the person familiar with said platform and develops basic muscle memory. Similarly, a pure firearms novice can be taught the basics of guns and ballistic trajectory this way. Point for 1nfamy: having more experience with the gun with a round it wasn't intended to fire vs what is chambered in, when it has such major differences, will not allow you to develop the necessary muscle memory needed in order to operate the gun adequately when the time comes. Particularly, I think, if it's a semi-auto, since you've become so accustomed to nigh zero barrel rise between shots, that in the moment you'll end up defaulting to that experience and be all over the place in terms of accuracy... There's surely valid points on both sides, but once you've reached a certain point (experience level) with shooting firearms, you just have to admit that shooting with the .22 rounds is for nothing other than your own enjoyment. 😉 And hell, maybe there's something marketable here... like a small electronic device that you mount behind the trigger, which plays <insert gunshot sound of your choice> on each pull... that way you can just use an AIR RIFLE (generalized term) instead of bothering with any live ammo. Then you can fire it in the backyard (if city ordinance allows) or even inside the house! (As a kid [90s] I was allowed to shoot my bb or pellet guns in the basement, from the fireplace down the hallway and into the unfinished portion [laundry, utility, dad's work area], which was a good 15ft of more. Obviously no windows in LoS from the target, but even as we started shooting my plastic toys in a cardboard box, the occasional ricochet bb didn't have enough speed to do damage to walls or even us lol This was a Daisy 10-pump and a Marksman break-barrel pellet with removable peep-sight, for context)
