If it thought it was going faster, wouldn't it gave come to a hover and shut off the engine higher above the deck? But that doesn't seem like what happened... Though maybe it did and the light saturation obscured it being higher up, and so that drop was enough to collapse a weakened leg. edit: Oh, I forgot to add, which you touching on reminded me... If the legs aren't replaced ever, or regularly, I think they might want to consider it. If never replaced, then after 15, though 10 would be better. If they have been, then might need adjusting if it is fatigue as a cause.
