I'm calling it now: airlines won't implement this simply because passenger test simulations will show people ffffreaking out due to the much increased, visual flexture (?; flexing) of the wings, causing people to have less confidence, thereby taking profits.
I'm not poo-pooing the tech or legitimacy of the improvements. Me, you... we understand the physics. Our folks, family, neighbors, everyone else though, they don't.
We are skeptical of things we don't understand, and they're are still plenty of people who don't and won't fly. We're so accustomed to seeing the wings flex only slightly – I say this, assuming most people aren't seeing the amount they move during heavy turbulence – and I just feel like this will rip too many people out of an established comfort zone.
(Plus... I'm not sure that Boeing was the best choice of partner here, given their recent track record with civilian and military aircraft, as well as rocketry! So on that note I'm also In Before the 737 gets High Aspect Wings and Boeing claims "only minor modifications made; no additional pilot training is necessary! 👍" since, as even Scott points out: it's the bean-counters that run things over there now 😏)
