  5. It might just be that they are notably more susceptible to the compassion argument. Many men and women on the left AND right are quite susceptible to authoritarianism.

  10. The problem is the dumb way they teach Christianity. If heaven and hell is explained as afterlife where you need to postpone all gratification to, then Marx is right. If heaven and hell is just the state of mind (which I think is the right one), then Marx is wrong.

  18. 9:10 that "highly liberal" is more prone to authoritarianism than conservatives sounds intentionally misleading. They should compare "highly liberal" with "far right". Perhaps it makes less difference in the US than in Europe but finding meaningless statistics and using them to support your agenda is just propaganda.

  19. 6:21 why does Dr. Peterson first say that people with "low verbal intelligence" are more susceptible and then he generalizes it to intelligence and then to IQ. They might be related, but they are not equivalent. I find it at least sloppy if not manipulative. It's his core competence after all. I find this also not a too convincing argument because a lot of extremely high IQ people failed for that ideology. In my perception it's even that hiqh IQ people in particular are susceptible.

  22. The question is what "exists" mean. When God is "the knowledge about how to live a life that's worth living or perhaps the best possible life", does God then exist or not. That God is an entity with an agenda is just complete nonsense.

  23.  @drooskie9525  It's not the worst, but I don't know if it's the only one. The Catholic Church definitely did a poor job interpreting it and explaining it to people. I think that's the main reason people show it their back. The way it is taught it has no value to people.

God is mostly what we are made of socially and the implicit and explicit knowledge that humanity carried over from our forefathers, like morale and what drives us like reproduction, love, power, .... The eternity stuff comes only from the assumption that humans always existed. At the time the stories the Bible consists of were "created", people had no idea that humans existed only for a short time. Using God as the creator of the universe is just a lazy reinterpretation.

  26.  @suvorovetz642  How does that fit into the discussion? I believe that life is better if you live like God existed, independent of whether you actually believe it and whether it's true. I don't see a need to believe that someone or something created the physical universe.

  27.  @suvorovetz642  That's a rather weird assumption. When religion had a run at having people killed, there weren't even that many people around as "atheist" countries killed. With "atheist" I assume you mean mostly Communist. So the comparison doesn't really hold up in my opinion. The next thing is, that the Christian "God" promoted by the Catholic Church isn't really the Christian God. It's mostly a marketing vehicle to keep the Catholic Church going and the money flowing in - a convenient interpretation to manipulate people. So it's mandatory to agree on what God we talking about when we talk about God and whether it's good in believing. More important than believing in God is believing in the values Christianity (and some other religions) propose. These values are written up in a holy book for a reason - because smart people in the past observed, experimented, concluded and tested upholding which values make life worthwhile (prevent you from hell).

  28.  @TCJB33  What you write doesn't make any sense. You go so abstract that anything goes but also that it means nothing. I wouldn't want to be involved in a religion sold this way. There are approachable ways of thinking about religion that also totally make sense without anything supernatural. The way you put it, it looks to me as if you try too hard to make it look like something great while it actually is just vaporware.

  30.  @suvorovetz642  I know the Big Bang theory and it came more and more under scrutiny. Some theories suggest that there are more big bangs not only one. It's only a theory because there is no proof either way, so spare me your stupid requests for proof.

  34. @dustythurman5426  I think you are right in all points. I'm a software developer and saw myself on the left most of my life. It's just the gender stuff and it's fallout that threw me off so much that I could puke almost without interruption since. I think intelligent people are overconfident in their ability to set up complex systems and their ability to understand people's motivations, and underestimate their ability and willingness to overlook contradictions and to be and do evil.

  35. Capitalism is in place and going strong. Why would anyone rebrand it. Sure there are attempts to attach some colorful stripes like green or social, but the base is unchanged. Capitalism helped billions out of poverty, Communism killed 100-200mio people. That's why the latter is not too popular.

  37. I think agnostic/atheist comes from God being made mystical. I don't see anything mystical about God as Dr. Peterson explains God. His is also the first explanation that makes any sense to me and it completely changed my view of religion. The mystical stuff is great to manipulate people and present yourself as someone superior who has the supernatural ability to connect with that mythical stuff. The only mystical thing about God is, that it's knowledge, understanding and logical conclusions instead of some physical thing that can be found using a telescope.

  43. I think this is only a side effect. We know that fossil fuel is limited and it was essential to force development of alternatives. That the conservatives made themselves the guards of the fossil easy money business at the expense of future generations, left alternatives wide open to the "progressives". Progressive by itself isn't bad. One of the bad things is that it was taken over by the Woke.

  47. Also the Catholic church failed people in many ways. It was authoritarian and hostile to science. When they lost that power they lost the power to force people to submit to their teachings and they were lost in finding ways to teach so that reasonable people could accept it and join voluntarily. Communism was a welcome idea to fill the vacuum. The church still hasn't made any progress since.

  49. I saw a short part of a video today where Dr. Peterson stated that his discussion partner is disagreeable and I got the impression it's because he didn't hesitate to interrupt Dr. Peterson. He himself interrupts constantly, but states he is too agreeable. He might have had other reasons to see this person as disagreeable that weren't shown in the video. Anyway, I find this his most annying behavior that he never lets the others person say even one full sentence.
