@johnkeen4271 I want an EV not a stinking combustion
11
@johnkeen4271 What a nonsense. Also while we currently have enough oil, it's still finite and a constant cause of war. I rather drive from energy from my own solar panels.

When tariffs kick in, they will reconsider. It will be like with Japanese cars in 70s and 80s
5
@breft3416 That's the only blocks with money. China is going backwards. India first needs to grow. There is nobody else.
5
@johnkeen4271 Just because it went some way for some decades, doesn't mean it will continue into the future. If gas becomes expensive because of shortage, all you get is metal scrap money. The EVs dropped after 5-6 years are first generation if this happens at all.

They don't want you to learn about this one trick
4
@johnkeen4271 Sure, I found this fun as well, but if they grow up in a different time, they might as well think you are intentionally trying to destroy the planet they are supposed to live on. I wouldn't take such preferences for granted.

@johnkeen4271 I store the sun in batteries 😉 The prices are falling rapidly. Sure sometimes I might not be able to use my own power. Because I don't own an oil field with a refinery, this is my every day experience with ICE. Also 200 miles is no problem with today's EVs and it's constantly getting better.

@sethpawlik We can't let that happen. This is why we need tariffs for Chinese imports. Otherwise the salaries of US carmaker CEOs would suffer and we don't want that. I'm just wondering - oil will eventually be used up, but I guess we will have enough other more pressing problems by then and most won't even notice 🤡

So they want to become resilient to sanctions when attacking Taiwan und move their money where the US and Europe can't confiscate it?
1
@PiefacePete46 If the Chinese government subsidizes Chinese cars so that Chinese car makers can crush the competition and create a monopoly the customer will pay 70k to the Chinese manufacturer and doesn't even have a choice. The 20k the customer pays more, is a penalty for trying to benefit from China's unfair business practices. The money flows back into the US economy one way or another, so it's not lost. The remaining question is, if China actually uses unfair practices to create a monopoly. I can't tell. It looks to me though, that China has had strong restrictions for foreign manufacturers for decades, while they face no limitations in western countries except perhaps some tariffs.

@traderboi2662 That's ok. It will make the move to renewables much smoother and reduce oil demand much quicker.
1
LOL in Russia everything fails because of corruption. There's not that much difference.
1
@Parsecter You get blocked in a bunch of channels but these ideology infested channels aren't worth the time anyway
1
The Chinese aren't any better with wars. The US hasn't annexed sovereign countries.

@tluangasailo3663 there are over 300mio people, of course there are some still inventing, but the decline is obvious. Feeling special is now considered more important than doing something special.

Progressive in some areas. I doubt their reign will last as an autocracy. Just because it works for now, because the rest of the world moved all production and knowledge there, doesn't mean this model will work forever. The west will adapt and the success will bring new challenges for China as well.

It's greed that brought us into this position (as always)

The main difference to when Japanese cars were introduced is, Chinese cars look great. Japanese cars always were the ugliest by far. It became a bit better the recent decade.
1
@MicheleDiBiase-wd4sh always? Not too long ago they couldn't even feed their own people. They were dying like flies.
1
@MicheleDiBiase-wd4sh It's the only place most stuff is produced, so what do you compare it to?
1
@paulmatters2641 China isn't Socialist. They are a capitalist autocracy.
1
@lamrof re-defining
1
To be fair, China poures a lot of concrete into ghost towns and they are 4 times as many people. If you compare numbers it's better to break it down per capita.

@dakmycat3688 Nothing "works" where humans are involved. Humans try to game every system to get more out than they put in. Sure Democracy doesn't work great, but we know that all other known systems are much worse. If you want a system that works really well, you just need to remove all the humans - that's for people who think there are easy solutions and just evil people who prevent them from being implemented.
