  4. ​ @forgotten_world I'm sure Sodium batteries will take over this space and are already being built at utility scale. I think gravity batteries aren't efficient enough when converting from/to power.

  5.  @forgotten_world  They seem quite simple in principle and used nowhere, why is that? The only exception is pumped storage hydro and they are gigantic in size, nothing anyone would build on a green field. Sodium batteries are quite promising and there are big ones being built and already used for a while. They use mostly materials that are easily available. Energy density is not ideal for cars or mobile devices, but plenty for stationary storage.
