@GilbertKisling because they were Russians

@katethomas1519 And quadriple the fatalities

I think that was what gave Ukraine the idea for Kursk. I can imagine they knew before Prigozhin.

A flash in a pan. Everyone gets a wad of cash that doesn't have any value a few weeks later and you can't buy anything immediately because all production capacity is bound to build weapons to be blown up.
5
@brianroyster7510 I think there were a bunch of good reasons to invade Russia. It would be interesting how many of them were anticipated or accidental.
5
It took Russia 10 years
5
@Elaiyel Betting on Russia. It's like deciding to reduce sugar consumption and take Fetanyl as compensation
5
They need to move people in to keep the status quo. The question should be, have they redirected the inflow?
4
I think the most difficult part is, that Russia can't prevent people from leaving like North Korea.
4
You just need to convince Putin to leave other countries alone
4
Sounds more like Africa is collapsing 🤔
3
@CS-wn5lv Shouldn't you follow your own advice to be a good role model. Otherwise it's difficult to take you seriously 🤣
3
@TheRezro We know it isn't and we know there is no point in negotiating. We have to ensure Russia doesn't get any benefit from this aggression, otherwise they'll just take some time to recover and start over for the next bite and it will go on forever.

@kingboagart899 yeah, Putin miscalculation his relevance in the game
2
Only the people, not the planet itself
2
Power is a harder drug than alcohol. It might take a while
2
Because in the US they can rely on laws.
2
They probably also have very high child mortality, so the fertility rate by itself doesn't tell the full story
2
As long as Putin is in power it's not entirely gone
2
Russia is done anyway, they just don't want to deal with the consequences of losing the war at home. No matter what happens. Even if Ukraine just surrendered. Russia wouldn't recover. Not even lifting sanctions would save them. They need active help to recover from this war. Only as long as the war keeps going on they can keep up appearances.

Threats about nukes is more intimidating if they are made by a madman. So appearing a bit unhinged serves him well.

@VaulDweller553 Hard to say. There are too many variables. Prigozhin had to secure his place and find people loyal to him running the country and establishing his power. All hell could have broken loose with no way to predict any outcome.
1
@Burglecutter I also think the chance was there and in hindsight he'd regret that he stopped if he wouldn't still be alive😉
1
A new tactic to overwhelm Ukraine after Russia ran out of equipment for their soldiers?

Putin needs a lot of separate groups and has them play against each other fighting for his approval to keep them busy so nobody has time to organize against him.

Either we get off oil or oil will be the reason for WW3. It is completely insane that the US uses more oil than a country 4x the population. Europe is completely fucked because they don't even have military power to ensure minimal supply.
1
Interesting that US companies do the same in Europe and the US government can force them to hand over data. I'm not sure if GDPR effectively protecting Europeans from that. I guess it should, but doesn't.

@gnewgnew2011 So what? The ground and people don't vanish when s country collapses. They just have to start over again with a new system that fails it's people again and again even though (or because) it has such riches in natural resources. Russia doesn't build anything lasting. It's just terrorizing it's own people and neighbors and serves only a handful.

It's a consequence of follies committed much earlier. When Putin started playing foul to stay in power. Such "games" follow an inevitable path.
1
Putin sent everyone to the front who he wanted to get rid of because he saw them as a possible threat.
1
and Ukrainians fighting on his side
1
@Elaiyel I guess they need an external enemy to distract from their incompetent government?
1
@kage2479 It has no relevance what Putin thinks is important to him. Ukraine is a sovereign country and Putin has no say in what they do. These countries around Russia flee into NATO for protection from Putin. It's all Putin's fault nobody trusts him.
1
The "sad" thing is, there won't be a Russia for long enough to be held accountable
