  12. ​ @youxkio That doesn't make sense. Democracy doesn't open leeway. If there is no democracy, it's already authoritarian. The problem is, that all systems require enough people to play by the rules. If they don't, the rules are pointless. This is what happens, when Democracy falls. If someone commits a crime and the police aren't attaining the criminal or the judge is not convict, the rules are meaningless. This is why in democracies separation of powers is so important. It's not infallible though. If some authoritarian figure gains power of people in separate institutions, he can bring democracy down. That's what Putin did and what Trump tried (tries).

  20. I think Ukraine does this to get Russian soldiers out of the trenches. They dug themselves in for years and it's hard for Ukraine to make progress there. Ukraine just moved the war to where no trenches are.

  30. The other leaders just don't have the guts to make such statements in fear the voters might not agree. It's the right thing to say even when it's unlikely it will come to it. Russia won't be impressed by people who at most support Ukraine by upvoting anti-Russian SM comments.

  42. I got the impression Sodium batteries are already commercialized. It's just that it takes time to build the huge factories that can deliver the volume. There are even cars available with Sodium batteries already from BYD if I remember correctly. It will take about 5y until they can surpass Lithium battery production capacity.

They were smart enough to make use of our stupidity and short term thinking. It's no secret that Sodium has only half the energy density, but there are uses where this doesn't matter at all. Most cars don't need more than 20km range 99% of the time. Fore home solar or utility size energy storage energy density completely irrelevant. There is no discussion anymore if Sodium batteries will have a market. It's only about getting the factories built.

  47. Putin is failing. Macron just tried to help him understand that he has lost. If Putin thinks he just needs to put a bit more pressure on his army to finally get the upper hand, Macron tells him, the West hasn't even entered the game yet but is prepared to. So Putin should understand that it's game over. All he will concentrate on now is to make it past the election.
