I'm only terrified of human stupidity. Everything else is manageable.

It's now time for Europe to show whether it is only hot air or it actually exists.

What I constantly see is that people think when someone built a successful company that has a huge market value, say 10B, that they have a money storage with 10B in it and the tax office just needs to take some of it. Most people don't even care, they just want their envy go away. All we need is less corruption and enforcing existing laws. Of course less government spending would help as well.

The rest of the population isn't any better. People love wasting money for useless crap and/or to impress neighbors instead of building wealth instead of doing something useful with the money and get rich.

I grew up on the western side of the Iron Curtain at about 10km distance in Austria. It was quite a close call. This area north of the Danube river was occupied by Russians towards the end of the war. I don't think there is a better way of being reminded daily about how lucky we were. Also populist politicians playing with authoritarian ideas, like in Hungary, would have been much more successful and I can imagine European countries engaging in even more wars against each other would have been a strong possibility. Learning English in school definitely helped with the career more than any other 2nd language could have. For us Germany was the big brother. Only when I grew older I realized the role of the US. I also think European countries should contribute more to defence. It would improve our self esteem. What I don't know is how much the US discouraged us from doing so in the past to not being able to become a threat again. The stability is definitely what allowed European countries to prosper.

The sshd config stuff can be simplified by copying a file to /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ This makes it easier when an sshd update has changes in the default config. Check if sshd_config contains "Include /etc/ssh/sshd_config/*.conf". I have first seen this structure in Debian Bullseye

I find it funny how the companies throw unlimited money at the problem, but I think they are completely missing the point. It will be smaller companies who work smarter that will make the breakthrough. The bunch of new power plants will find some utility but the rest of the infrastructure will soon be outdated, at least much faster than they can make money with it.

There are a bunch of poor "software developers" that AI might be able to replace but when AI can replace most or all software developers, then it can replace absolutely everyone. Assuming some jobs are less at risk than software development is complete nonsense. It's all dramatically overstated anyway. That we have a definition of levels 2-5 doesn't mean any of this will be reached anytime soon. It's like with Elon Musk's announcements. They might become real eventually but might as well never materialize.

Charge the car at work from solar and use the stored power to run appliance at home at the evening/morning

This is probably caused by mobility. If people live in the same place their whole life and they mess up with neighbors the rest of their life will be miserable. When you live in a different city every 5 years, the consequences of ripping off someone are close to non-existant (as long as you don't go to prison). Also big companies don't depend on reputation much when there are none or only few alternatives that are known to not be any better.

Russia is just a huge Gas station and a lot of stray drunks.

I wouldn't assume that DOGE has a way of finding out who is productive and who isn't. They just cut through and when some problems arise, they will try to correct. A lot of highly efficient employees (as far as this is even possible in large organizations) will be released.

I think the main opposition to Immigration comes from people being convinced that immigrants are as bad a people as they are themselves. Nobody right in their mind would want more of that.

@reecev2087 Most technological achievements of the past decades are about getting more personal data for targeted ads and the ads I get shown all the time aren't any more fitting than 3 decades ago. Most advancements only lead to more useless shit. 10 years ago I was more optimistic to have self-driving cars when I'm of old age than I am now.

We try to get as much food as possible from local farmers because everything else is too toxic. If it came from a factory it contains something that's unhealthy. The stuff like growing food in or at buildings and fake meat don't appear to be more than marketing gags. It's like all kinds of "modern" fuel which requires just too much energy to produce to be of any practical use.

Quite similar to Woke. Both are extremists views

6:27 that's the whole political agenda of the left. Everyone must have the same salary, the same house, the same career. The people richer than others are the bad people that need to be punished. "socialists don't care about the poor, they just hate the rich" from George Orwell 1937. So the complaining about people who have more is a rather old idea. I think the political orientation comes first and the issues people complain about are based on that orientation. I think social media is just blowing this out of proportion because so many people participate and the most outrageous comments get the most feedback.

In a "more efficient system" it wouldn't be government middle management taking all the money, it would be a few corporations. To assume cost would be reduced this way is just naive. Most essential services outsourced from the governments to be run privately and supposedly more cost efficient, went down the gutter. They are entirely optimized for profitability and every other goal becomes irrelevant. Don't get me wrong, I wish lean government would work better. If you want education, health care, ... out of the government, then be prepared to only get good quality service if you can pay lots of money and be prepared to have good lawyers at hand to help you fight off scams.

I think if robots can do the work to completely provide for the "rich" (those who control the robots), they will build exclusive enclaves for themselves and make their robots ensure nobody else uses up any precious resources. This would probably be worse than a nuclear war for the unlucky part of the population (99.9%).

@AFNick Managing wealth and the risk of losing it seems like a full time job to me. Perhaps not a stressful one, but I'd find ways to fill 40h/week with that.
