  1. In a much larger sense, conducting war is about 4 things. 1) Extracting raw materials needed for warfare. 2) Transporting those materials to a location for processing. 3) Processing those raw materials into weapons/supplies. 4) Transporting those weapons/supplies to the battlefield.

  2.  @stevewhite3424  I agree about the human aspect. You are correct. It is 'the single biggest aspect'. The original poster is also correct. Without 'repair and maintenance', without 'new construction'...victory is more elusive. Others have quoted "Amateurs study tactics. Professionals study logistics.' They are correct. I was only talking about a "much larger sense". The ability to equip and sustain those armies/navies, in the theater.

  4. Not facetious at all. I don't think there'd be much impact on policy/strategy. They knew about American industrial might, but I believe it's doubtful that ANYONE could have predicted how that might was about to become mobilized. But they knew. By that time, they were committed to their course of action.
