  1. Troops in landing craft, heading towards the beach reported the 14 inch shells going directly over their heads. The shells created such an atmospheric disturbance that they caused a waterspout to form, and rise up out of the sea. It created a straight-line of rising water, starting at the firing gun and ending at the shoreline. I don't recall if it was the Nevada or Texas that was firing. I've only read this in one place...so, being a good 'history-guy', I'd like to have a second-source to verify this story.
