I’m only 59, but I remember him reading both Stone Soup and Caps for Sale.

For my 5th (or maybe 6th) birthday after a party at my house my guests (3-5 of them) and I went to a live broadcast of the local kids show in Rochester, MN. I took the main character a piece of my birthday cake. We must have been early, or maybe there was a tour of the set before the taping. Anyhow, the cast re-wrote or ad-libbed a sketch where the main character was sitting at his desk with a plate holding that piece of cake. Whenever he turned his head, a little puppet (a mouse?) came out of a hole in the wall at desktop height and tried to steal the cake! Years later my dad went to the studio to see if they still had the show on tape, but they didn’t. Thanks for jogging my memory of one of my best birthday celebrations ever!

Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Rogers, Romper Room, and later Sesame Street and Electric Company. Banana Boats and Casey Jones with Roundhouse Rodney, also.
