Some species of pythons can swim others are tree dwellers. They are slow-moving snakes usually capable of reaching 1 mph not likely to make it to Cuba.

They have been in South Florida since 1979 and established a breeding population after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The farthest they are found is on occasion in south Georgia this is after over 40 years to move north but due to freezing temperatures they are not able to do so and they surely will never be able to establish breeding populations outside of Florida where the temperature on average is 72°.

There are no cottonmouths in Ohio. They're northernmost range is Southeastern Virginia and also Southern Illinois. There are seven different species of harmless water snakes that live in Ohio's lakes and rivers that citizens have been reporting as cottonmouths for years. The Ohio fish and wildlife along with the Ohio herpetology Society have stated that there are no venomous snakes in Ohio other than the Timber, Massasauga rattlesnakes and the Copperheads. The Burmese python that is an invasive species in Florida has been there since 1979 and is mainly in the southern portion of the Everglades National Refuge where they established a breeding population after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. They were found this far back as 1979 in South Florida and they haven't been able to move any further north since then due to freezing temperatures. The only place they can survive is in Florida where the average temperature is 72°. This is a documentary based on speculation not scientific fact.

Most of them escaped during Hurricane Andrew back in 1992 from pet stores, zoos and even collectors. They've had thirty years to breed and establish populations in the Everglades and could be coming to your town next if you live in the southeast or the Gulf Coast region.
