@24blade00724 Done that too, 59 here, will be 60 in January. Installed both an in dash used 8-track and later an under dash cassette (with auto reverse/auto music search, the schnizz back then, and from Radio Shack no less) and had it on a removable mount screwed to the transmission tunnel in a 1968 Chrysler Newport and jury rigged the itty bitty 4" surface mounts with cheap plywood and wire to the 6x9 ovals in the parcel shelf. Good times!

@Tom-6502 Before the wiring kits came along, it was not so easy. I installed a used 8-track head unit in my car in the early 80's when it replaced the factory AM thumbwheel radio.

@ryanmorrison5464 Likely boring as most newer cars now have modules or are difficult to modify due to how the head unit is integrated into the dash. Also, likely it means most don't even try to go wild with stuff and not experiment like was once done back in the day.

Agree. I got my current head unit, a JVC double DIN unit there in 2012 and it still rocks to this day. I put it in myself, though it already had an aftermarket single din head unit, but no USB/BT features. It was replacing the original double DIN unit in a 2003 Mazda Protege 5 wagon. Got all the parts needed to do the connection and it plugged into the stock head unit plugs and has been a solid unit for 12 years, so far... Using the stock factory speakers even.
