Rust aside, that was my thinking too, not the worst out there by a long shot, but could be cared for a bit better, age notwithstanding.

Being a Chevy, likely many parts are still available. Example, many parts, including body parts are now available new for many older cars, including floor pans, and Chevy is one that many companies still make replacements for many models, including the older Square bodies. Just may not be able to go the OEM route though.
