No. HDD (physical mechanical drives) are much better at keeping things for a long time than current SSD drives as they only retain memory if there is power to them, or periodically plug them in to retain memory. Best to just use them on the daily. Mechanical drives are best for long term storage, and for stuff you don't need to access that often, but need to keep. Yes, they will suffer from disc rot, eventually, but drives that have not operated in years, can still access stuff written to them decades ago and have not been used in a long time in many cases, but they will eventually fail, grease/oil dries out etc. Hope this helps clarify things.
