  1.  @stevezettle3212  Explain why France had to get its gigantic magnets from Russia for the ITER fusion reactor. Explain why EUV chip technology is based on Russian optics. For that matter, explain why they had to source the gigantic steel kettle for the ITER reactor from India. Why did Tesla have to contract IDRA in Italy for the gigapress? There are leading edge practitioners all over the world, and if you want progress to be faster, you want to be able to buy from all these places. By definition "friendshoring" everything means lower quality at a higher price, and permanently, since by definition the new players won't be as good and won't serve as big a market.
