  3. A good way to think about aggressive military actions is that each punch exposes you and risks your alliances. Even a wildly successful move that gets your tactical goal achieved, can cost you far more on strategic, diplomatic levels.

  5. Another scenario possible though remote is angry Russians who don't want to be sacrificed in a feint around a capital that won't be taken. Or turned by the CIA or by Ukraine. I give that single digit probability. I give it 20% Ukraine internal planned actions, 20% NATO or CIA, 10% Russia, 10% rogue act by Poland without direct NATO clearance, 35% autonomous commander as you suggest, 5% rogue Russians.
