  1. The ICBMs were not the replacements for the XB-70 Valkyrie. They still needed a bomber and this bomber was the Rockwell B-1 Lancer. This bomber is able to follow at sub-sonic speed the terrain at a very low altitude below the enemy radar. To some degree this Bomber is even better than the B-2 because it has a much better maneuverability. The B-2 is a stealth bomber, but if it gets detected it's like a sitting duck. Not so the B-1, it still has a chance to escape.
