  1. Why semi-submersibles and not real submarines? Here are the reasons why: Real submarines are a lot more expensive and difficult to build. The pressure under the sea level increases with the depth, which means that you need a stronger hull. Stronger hull means steal and that must be thick enough to reach the desired depth. The best depth is deep enough under a thermal layer, so that surface ships can't detect it with active sonar. The depth of the thermal layer depends on the region too, it's not always the same. But having a submarine that can dive 300 m deep might be a good shot. The problem is, a submarine that can reach that depth requires very good steel, a high construction quality and a thick hull wall. Approximately 3-4 cm. A hull wall thickness with 3-4 cm thick steel walls is very expensive. And it is not easy to weld it together. The welded joints must be of high quality, so that it can withstand the high pressure at that depth. Than you need a pressure system that is able to push the water out of the ballast tanks at such a depth and sea pressure. That's complex and expensive too. Under water you need an electric drive and a lot of batteries, this isn't cheap either. The longer you must travel under sea, the more battery capacity you'll need and the more expensive and large your submarine gets. To safe costs you'll want to drive with diesel engines at low depth with a snorkel. Designing a snorkel isn't easy either. And because of the diesel engine, you have to defeat noise, diesel engines generate,. Because US submarines patrol their borders and can hear you easily if your submarine is not quiet.Making a sub quiet is expensive too. Also you will need to dive very slowly at less than 5 knots to keep quiet, thus the battery capacity requirements will be big. Then you'll need to know your enemy in the area you're diving in, especially when you want to go on surface. Which means you'll need passive sonar with a low band waterfall display system  to detect and identify potential enemy ships near you, including other submarines. Detecting modern military submarines is very difficult, because they are very quiet, it is much more likely, that they will detect you. Also you need to have an air cleaning system to remove the carbon dioxide out of the air, when submerged. This is complex and expensive too. Having toilets makes sense too, to be able to stay a long time under water. But the biggest problem is the following, such a submarine will get big. You can't built it within the jungle where a river isn't deep enough. Also the required quality of submarine parts is high enough that you won't be able to create them in the jungle. So you will need to built them in segments and built them in urban areas. The required logistic to move these segments from an urban area into the jungle without being seen will be a nightmare. The best place to construct such a submarine is probably outside of the country in another country where no one takes care about what you do and what you build. Also keep in mind, US spy satellites are everywhere. They will also see a submarine at the beach of west Africa. If you have constructed such a boat, it is so expensive that you won't want to loose it. So you will need a way to get rid of the drugs without getting on surface near the coast line. Torpedo tubes might be ideal for such a task. But Torpedo tubes are very difficult to construct and design too. If you flood them, this must be very quiet, so you must take care for that at construction phase too, this isn't easy either. All in all, this is so difficult and expensive and a logistical nightmare that you will have to use the boat for many trips of drug delivery so that it makes sense economically. I wouldn't think about such a submarine under a price of 500 Million Dollars, it will cost probably much more. Sorry for my bad English, it's not my native language, i am a German.

  3. YOSEMITE SAM You missed my point. Your assumption that drug dealers would become normal businessmen when drugs are legalizes is wrong. Drug dealers deal with illegal drugs because they can earn a lot of money with it because these drugs are illegal, they do not deal with them because they like drugs. Look at your assumption and ask yourself, why they do not already deal with legal goods then you will see, why your assumption is entirely wrong. Or in other words, drug dealers could be already legal businessmen today, the only thing they would need to do is change their products they sell from illegal products to legal products. The reason why a drug dealer doesn't do business with legal products like electronic devices is money. In a legal market, the prices of goods are low and the competition is big, so the money income is much lower. The same would happen to drugs if you legalize them, then the criminals would shift to other more lucrative products, which would be illegal again, so nothing is won. Realize this, criminals do NOT follow the product, they follow the money. Legalizing drugs will shift them to do business with other illegal goods in the long run. Like human organs for example. Also illegal markets will always exist, they'll always create criminals, from this point of view it doesn't matter if drugs do or do not belong to these illegal markets. The lure is only the money. But having drugs as a illegal good will keep them away from much worse illegal goods. BTW: It looks rather stupid pressing the like button to "like yourself", i can see this!
