I find the judges sentence heartless and horrible to the woman. No wonder the good man in the background shook his head. When he was kicked out, she also forbade him from expressing his opinion.

@christinekillen3393 The average life expectancy of a raccoon in the wild is only 3 years, so that's no reason to ruin a person's entire life. Besides, as humans our job is to show forgiveness. A harsh sentence won't bring the raccoon back to life.

The judges sentence is very cruel. She is now a convicted felon without the chance of Expungement. She will never be allowed to vote again. The verdict will make it impossible for her to live a decent life with work because no one will employ her. Her children will have to grow up in poverty because of this judge. And she is not allowed to have any pets, which also affects the children. A very cruel verdict. Yes, she killed an animal in a cruel way, but that doesn't justify such a heartless judgment with no chance of reintegration. The USA is really lost as a country, I would have given her just 1 year in prison and nothing more. Greetings from Europe.

@BodyglassFlaws You completely missed the point. It already happened, what she should have done gets us nowhere. What matters is how we deal with it now and this judgment is too harsh.

@Terri_MacKay You have forgotten the other consequences of that verdict. If the prison sentence is only 45 days, as you say, then why is she not allowed to own new pets after the 45 days of imprisonment have expired, i.e. when the guilt has been served? It's clearly revenge! If it wasn't revenge, then the sentence would have been served with a prison sentence without any further conditions after the prison time.
