  4. Exactly and you really need very big bombs in the 5 Mt ranges to get enough dust into high altitudes, so that it doesn't get washed out by rain which happens in lower altitudes. But all these big bombs are no more in the military stockpile. Today, they have usually more but much smaller bombs in the 300 kt to 1,2 Mt range. Not enough to reach high altitudes. All the dust would get washed out early which means no nuclear winter.
