I'm currently 47 years old. I'm supporting my mother, and my 37 yesrs old younger sister is living with her.
I was around my 30s when I've decided not to marry and have kids. Life wasn't going as I've planned. I was hoping to be graduated by 26 years old (that didn't happen), be established in a good job, have a house by 28 years old, and be married with kids before my 30s.
As a co-worker that I used to work, with on my 30s (he was also around that age) told me, it's when you are young that you want to have kids because you still have the stamina to play with them. He married a female co-worker and had a son but divorced her after a couple of years due to differences. He was a saver. She was a spender. From what I've heard from a former female co-worker of the same age as my mother, he remarried with another girl, and I think he had another kid with her.
My younger sister, despite being graduated in programming engineering, decided to change career paths and is planning to be single as well.
She dated 3 times after she graduated and started working before giving up.
Of the 8 female cousins I have:
- 1 is a doctor and is married to another doctor. They dated for 10 years, married 1-2 yesrs ago, and his family is established. She's around the same age as my younger sister.
- 1 is married to an average guy and has 1 daughter.
- 2 are divorced. 1 has a kid (son), and she got the house from the husband. The other is a spender and likes to travel.
- 4 are single. 1 is on her 50s (party girl), 1 is on her 40s (party girl), 1 is on her 30s, and 1 is on her 20s (party girl).
Of the 3 male cousins I have:
- 1 is an architect and is married to another architect. They have 2 sons almost grown up.
- 1 is married to a teacher and has a kid (son) with her. She's the one supporting him. Her father owns properties. He likes to work as a DJ at night.
- 1 is a bank manager in the UK but doesn't want to get married. Ironically, he's probably the one who has the higher income amongst all of us. But he likes to travel a lot, like his sister.
In Portugal, fathers are allowed to take parental leave. I remember my female engineer boss complaining, the architect that works for her, taking too many parental leaves. For context, he was Catholic and had 4 sons, 2 daughters, and 1 baby. The female engineer had 1 son only.
