I believe that if there's a perfect society structure, where people are allowed to thrive and technological advanced, that hasn't been invented yet.
In order to be part of the current industrialised societies, you need to spend at least 12 years in school. That's what I was required in my current position. If you want better positions, you have to get degrees and specialisations. That's a lot of time of your life spent studying.
An elderly co-worker I used to live in the same house for 2 years told me this: societies need consumers in order to generate profit, but machines are taking over, making workers redundant. Who's going to consume products if people don't have jobs ?
Let's take the example of the US.
Most of what they produce can be made cheaper by manufacturing it in China. Even if they bring back production back in the US, it's because corporations found a cheaper way to produce their products through machinery in mass production scale.
Everything has a price.
Modern societies wanted women in the workforce, and now they are paying it in the form of population decline. The sad thing is that even though Western societies are on the decline, they are still seen as role model to the rest of the world because there's no better examples to follow.
I honestly don't think any future society can be built so long as materialism, consumerism, hedonism, and corporatism, amongst other stuff. Legion of men, usually mentions, are part of societies.
Till then, a human society similar to Star Trek is nothing but a distant dream.
For context: I remember a movie where a Borg ship travels to Earth in the past to prevent the first earth ship, created by a post nuclear war inventor to be successful and thus meeting the Vulcans and starting the whole earth Federation story
The Enterprise followed them, and upon rescuing the inventor, there was a part where he asked the Star Trek crew which country built the current Enterprise ship. He's replied by the crew that the Enterprise ship was built by the Earth Federation, and in the future, food, clothing, and shelter are all provided. Giving humans time to dedicate themselves to be part of the Earth Federation. (IRC)
