In my case, having a job and being able to afford a place to live is already better than what I had in Portugal.
The architecture office, I was in, went bankrupt in 2012, along with the construction sector. I was living on unemployment benefits for 2 years.
I had been in the Architecture university but never graduated as the fees were expensive and I had to work a full time job to pay for them.
Studied, while I was working: AutoCAD, 3D studio Max, Maya, with the hopes of landing a designer apprentice job: nothing.
While I was unemployed, I took a year course of computer technician, several programming course in the hopes of getting a job in the field: nothing.
Applied for car washing jobs and market place jobs, that didn't required skills: nothing.
In end I got a job interview to work in the UK as a airport cleaner. That was the only job offer, I had in 2 years of sending CVs. Working abroad.
Worked there for 3 months, went for Amazon but they only hired from October to January and than, I was jobless again.
Worked on agencies, with long periods of having no work and finally landed the job I got. It's minimum wage but it's better than what I had before.
I still need to send money to my family because my mother is struggling to pay for her house mortgage.
People may complain about not living comfortable on the country they live in, like the US, but there's worst: not having a job at all.
