I'm working 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, in the UK. Minimum wage.
The wage allows me to pay for my room, equipped with a small kitchen and my own toilet, send 500 pounds to help my mother each month, buy groceries, pay for my world of warcraft subscription and save some money. My biggest expense so far was my Acer laptop for gaming. It cost me around 1150 pounds. Bought it last year to replace my Dell laptop, I bought in 2019 and it cost me 899 pounds.
It's amazing the amount of money you save when:
- Your workplace is 15 minutes from where you live.
- You don't need a car.
- You are single without children.
- You enjoy gaming instead of travelling abroad. In fact the only hollidays I take is, to spend time with my younger sister and mother in Portugal. That's another advantage of being single: more money and time to spend with your relatives.
Having gaming has another advantage: it doesn't matter if the country you are living in is: cold, rainy, cloudy, etc. You are at home all the time so it doesn't matter.
In Portugal the minimum wage is €5.43 per hour.
In the UK the minimum wage is £11.44 per hour.
So yes I'm happy living in the UK. People here are more polite and there's more regulations at work 😁
