Could you maybe start talking about the political compass. I.E. the three dimensional one with authoritarian / libertarianism / liberal / conservative instead of just the simplified left/ right alone in the future? Too many neat little buckets for the nuanced reality.

  13. The law is statutory legalisation which are acts of Parliament. The common law element is Judge made law, which is generally based on interpretation of the legalisation and precedent.

This will hardly convince them he’s ok and up to the task. If he had a popular running mate it might be okay, but Harris isn’t well regarded across the political spectrum.

  24. I think it the difference between having land boarders and a sea boarder. It became necessary in the EU a long time ago due to the ease of transit across frontiers. The UK being cut off by a sea boarder means it’s not perceived as a necessity. Introducing these things unnecessarily means additional cost for little benefit, so governments trying to spend on services or tax breaks generally won’t do it.

It’s hard, very hard, to make decent laws. Have you ever even look through any? Do you know what makes a well worded legal text?

  28. We do have less productive workers… than China where people work six days a week 12-14 hours a day. Which is entirely what liz truss was complaining about. What the media should ask, is why is this a problem? Surely the issue is the poor treatment of Chinese workers by western companies in the quest for increased productivity. Honestly we used to take stands against this type of thing.

  31.  @realitywins9020  she said she disagreed with gay marriage and would have voted against it, she disagrees with trans rights and would have voted against it. Shes against having children out of marriage. She’s not an equal rights kind of person. Thats not governing for everyone.

She said she would have voted against the rights of others and only didn’t because it already passed. Her freedom to have her religion also means others have freedom from religion.

  33.  @davidalderson7761  if that’s who the country want, currently we could get another Nazi sympathiser without any say in it. It was only the fact Edward married a divorcee that prevented it. Also, who says we need a presidential system? Why not have a head of state like Ireland, mainly ceremonial with a couple of constitutional safeguards. Take the proroguing of Parliament, an elected head of state could have told them no, it’s unconstitutional.

Given how many of the conservatives likely to survive are already making overtures to bring Farage in, I don’t think seeing the conservatives going that way is unlikely. Only 20 left with the consciences intact when Johnson was in charge. The ones that remain are cowards with zero fight. They will do anything for power.
