To be fair, several countries could have exited at the time. France, the Netherlands, Italy, all had well supported leave movements. The UK was just first and proved what a disaster of an idea it was. Those other movements died overnight.

⁠ @ibexdnb2879 the only benefit of Brexit seems to be the massive proliferation of administrative red tape and associated costs and charges. Within the EU, we were trusted to meet the standards (usually in place for consumer protection), and therefore the level of administration within the area was significantly reduced. By leaving, we now need to prove, often on a consignment by consignment basis, that about products meet EU standards.
