We need PR urgently. The results showed again how unfit for purpose the FPTP system is.

@laidbackkodiak it’s always been a problem. It’s been a key policy platform of the LD and Greens for decades.

@hilarykirkby4771 i think it’s one of the issues behind it. Lack of having representation after voting is part of the trust in politics failure that’s led to this.

@philipgumm9243 if that’s the will of the people so be it, but they only got 14% of the vote.

@Moscow_Will_Burn it was a vote on AV, not PR

@dog_chasing_cars7576 why do you think I’m pro reform? I’m someone who, other than the Clegg period, aligns more with Lib Dem policies. I’ve had to vote tactically every election for nearly three decades because of this ridiculous Georgian voting system. I’m tired of not being able to vote for a party I want to at least have a shot of representing me. I voted Labour to get a Tory out yesterday. Labour members, the greens, and the Libdems all want PR. The latter two it’s in their manifesto.

@Moscow_Will_Burn I agree, AV is a terrible system that was less representative than FPTP. The UK rejected that system. We haven’t had a referendum on either PR (or STV for that matter). It’s a different voting system. I’m also worried you think that a vote is a onetime deal. If that was the case we would not have elections. But anyway, thanks for the well reasoned arguments against electoral reform (as I assume you will make one at some point).

@laidbackkodiak not true, There are many forms of PR. Based on the system we had for the EU elections, The country is split into regions and seats are assigned on a percentage of vote share within that region. This has a significant change to the electoral system as Labour wouldn’t get 65% of seats on 34% of the vote. They would only get around 34% of the seats. There are many other types of PR some that produce local reps and a national rep like Germany, some that just do more regional / national reps. Just to make it clear, there are multiple seats in each area that are awarded based on share of vote. Not just one.

@Moscow_Will_Burn still no argument against PR just insults. Do you know how to engage in a debate?

@keirbourne5323 I doubt it will benefit Labour for more than a term unless they can really do something spectacular. Politicians seem so shortsighted. The foundation of the majority is hardly a compelling statement of support. My seat has flipped because a lot of tactical voting seems to have happened and there was a right wing vote split. If the right pull themselves together, this seat will be blue again next election.
