@Iazzaboyce I get what you are trying to say, but the woman was short sighted and ignored, didn’t understand, or didn’t research the expert advice during the referendum that the one would affect the other. This was plainly stated multiple times.

One of my mates voted leave because he didn’t like the EU nations handling of Kosovo. 🤷‍♂️. It was a protest vote gone wrong.

@22Phantasm that’s the whole point of the elections. Parties review the issues and create a manifesto based off the complex discussion. That’s the whole thing for representative democracies. I’m gonna guess that the next point you make is our politicians are crap though. Yes, yes they are.

@lloydnaylor6113 who said that and what’s that got to do with FOM from the EU? Are you bothered by legal or illegal immigration? And why does it bother you? Have you been denied opportunities because of legal immigration?

@tilerman first up I agree with the OP. Would be the same with PR, same with Republic. Any issue won or lost shouldn’t be decided by referendum. My view is politicians should do the work they are paid handsomely for. My brexit mates are all labouring under the delusion that it will all “work it’s self out in the end” while we are sliding further and further backwards culturally, economically, and with respect to our rights and freedoms. So he’s right, not one of them understood the issues at play. All voted on the emotional sovereignty and without once understanding how sovereignty works. Not one took the time to look it up, even when given sources. It requires a lot more work than most people are willing to put in to decide these issues rationally.

@SGrahamArt unfortunately the the Scots don’t have the constitutional power to do it. Similar to the Catalonia region of Spain. Not saying it’s right, but that’s the current situation. You could win every seat in Scotland, but wouldn’t have the numbers to change a UK law.

@martinmcdonald4207 the Swiss cancelled a referendum for the same point, though I think a rerun would likely have been pretty similar. Not seeing many people I know change there minds yet.

@jayc342009 tell me what remain said that hasn’t come true? I guess WW3? But we are as close as we have been since the 80s. Not directly part of the calculation, but it was a project supported by Russia as it weakened there adversaries

@lloydnaylor6113 that’s not an immigration or EU problem is it. Unemployment nationally is at a nearly 40 year low. There could also be other reasons for being unable to secure work for example Invisible health issues or criminal convictions. You can’t make someone stay in a job who doesn’t want one, and you cant starve people.

@lloydnaylor6113 you have completely lost me. I responded to the initial post with release the hounds. Are you responding to someone else? The Albanian things a complete mess, We do have an agreement with Albania to take back the ones we don’t want, but that’s only around 25% last time I looked. They are not refugees as they are economic migrants. Not sure why this is an EU issue? France repeatedly offer to help, but we said no. Though Braverman started talking to France recently.

@lloydnaylor6113 please read my previous response again. They are under no obligation to take them back. We, Britain, terminated the agreement covering such matters. Successive Home Secretaries have declined to put an agreement in place to help the situation until the current one got told to against her ideological principles. Why do you think it’s their problem? They are a separate sovereign country and not beholden to us in any way other than the bare bones temporary trade agreement and NATO. Obviously you knew what you voted for, as this was part of discuss, and unless we had a soft Brexit and stayed in CU and EEA was always going to happen. Btw, France was (and is) a net contributor just like Britain and puts in more than it gets out. So we didn’t give money to France, they got a rebate on there own money just like we did.

@lloydnaylor6113 there are, it’s called the Return Directive. It places obligations on member states. Though I don’t think it’s the regulations you would want them to be. It doesn’t require immigrants to be sent back to France, it requires them to be sent back to their home country if unsuccessful. Several non EU countries have agreements one this. We are not one of them.
