The SNP have been really good at channeling the Nationalist movement in 100% peaceful way. I don’t think they, and the Scottish people get enough credit for how rare that is. Other independence movements have been mired with violence. Maybe the British government should occasionally look north…

Groups across the animal kingdom tend to need an in group and an out group to reinforce social cohesion. Note I say groups, it won’t include every individual within a group.

@richardbradbury3658 did you miss the part where I mentioned it’s about groups, nit necessarily all the individuals? there is no getting away from the fact we are animals. To think otherwise is foolish, as evidenced by the riots. I would expect the rioters would also say their position is based on their beliefs and common values. Nigel Farage shares common values with Trump, Bannon, Le Pen, and Miloni. It would be much nicer if he could share more common values with his neighbours, i.e, us. It may not need to be a petty nationalism, maybe a shared appreciation of cultural and societal achievements.

Like Cool Britainnia? That seems like a recent example of what you suggest. I agree, how to get to a place where we can have some positives to celebrate. Being slightly less rubbish than last year already seems like an uphill slog.

It seems conceptually flawed as most left wing movements are more internationalist. But I await Ollie detailing it in a book in 6 to 12 months.

Many countries have a better system, but I agree in principle, the voting system needs urgent reform.
