If public sector gets a rise, then private sectors will need to match or lose worker to better paid job roles. More money in people’s pockets means more money circulating int eh economy. This is in your best interest too as every thing is linked.

The money paid into the EU was more than covered by the trade we used to do which created jobs and therefore more tax. Forgiven aid is soft power projection and is used to create, enhance and maintain bilateral relations. Both have either tangible or intangible benefits to the UK. In theory we all benefit from these, but obviously some benefit more.

@the1beard what are you talking about. It doesn’t need to cover costs. It’s used by business to make money, via the transport of goods and people. The money is made in the general economy. Why is it only the English (as it seems unique to here) it seem to insist everything pays for itself and never look at the big picture. No wonder our businesses were bought out and cut up.

@the1beard no, because infrastructure is not like a house. It’s like the services provided to a house. Would you be willing to buy a house with no electricity, gas, roads, broadband, sewers, water? Of course not. Without adequate infrastructure, business will not remain or set up in the UK. This is a major gripe of businesses in the UK, not my words, his is from business. We lag behind the other European states as our infrastructure is still broadly Victorian, especially rail. The fact you want to throw more vehicles in the road suggest you don’t live in the south of England. It’s horrendous traffic congestion on the roads. You want to make it worse. Do you see? If you don’t, maybe you should do some research into the benefits of a good rail network. Japan, Germany, France are all good examples. Why are right wingers so poor at analogy?

@the1beard That’s an extremely one diamensional way of looking at it. Do you have any data to show the cost to the estimate cost to the economy of removing rail? I couldn’t find any data so it doesn’t seem like it’s even considered seriously enough even to consider.

For some examples; UK, France, Germany, as a very short list of G7 nations, but I could list pretty much of the developed world. All operate on socialist capitalist ideals. You do realise you are completely wrong on this?

I gave you three named examples of successful societies that make use of socialist principles, as does much of the rest of the world. Can you explain how these have failed? Marx wanted Socialism to be the first step to communism, but communism hasn’t as yet been successful. I’d say it fails for exactly the same reason capitalism is failing. People are the worst, they are greedy and act in against the common good if they feel they can. Most countries that use socialism as part of the political system have no intention of going to full communism. The Nazi Party were anti capitalist and anti Marxist, they added socialist to the name to appeal to left leaning voters (which Hitler actually opposed) but was considered far right for much of its existence. I mean Hitlers main enemies where “socialist Jews”. Hitler himself thought that facism was neither left nor right. I know you think you understand these things, but id suggest you read some political science books and actually inform yourself.

@coopsnz1 yes and? They have far greater eviction protection and renting is seen as a long term service. It’s not seen as a negative.

@colintawn3535 he was of course referring to the recently removal of the the cap to bankers bonuses by the government. While in reality this made little difference as they had just increased wages to get round this, bonuses were thought to be a cause of the economic crash in 2007 as they encouraged risky behaviour more than salary. Thus increasing the chances of more reckless financial decisions risking the national and global economy. Private companies have been reducing worker pay and conditions year on year even whilst making significant profits. Glad to see you are happy with the race to the bottom. How does concentrating wealth in the hands of those who don’t use it help anyone? It certainly doesn’t help the economy. This is driven by the people referred to in the paragraph above. What does the age of the organisation have to do with its relevance? The British Medical Association was founded in 1832, does this make it irrelevant? Fire fighters still fight fires, but are mainly used to rescue people from car crashes. Fire fighters are still required (speaking as a former police officer). The perception problem I think is they get fewer calls, but fewer of them means they will take longer to get there. Also, when we have large incident, they will struggle to contain them. Much like the army, you hopefully don’t need them all the time, but when you do, you really do. Thank you for your input. Have a great day.
