  3.  @kindmulberry7196  I do read manifestos, have been since the late 1980s. They don’t tell you what they will do, but they usually indicate a direction of travel.

  5.  @steveharrison76  how do you know the spare capacity of private hospitals? I’m guessing Labour maybe spoke to the private healthcare sector first, because that would be an easy tory attack line otherwise. Not all private healthcare professionals are NHS staff, how do you know they will not sleep? Currently that’s the issue in some parts of the NHS. There needs to be a quick solution to mitigate capacity and pressure on the NHS. Like it or not, this will be part of any solution. The other option is people living in pain and dying for the sake of ideological purity. If this is your preferred option, then there is really no helping you. How do you know the funding will come from existing NHS budgets, and not the windfall taxes on energy companies, public schooling tax, or some other wealth tax? In short, your assertion are opinions. Currently Streeting (who I loathe) has said they will use the Private Sector to back up the NHS, I want to know the fleshed out long term details before making an informed judgement. Is this a permanent plan? Or is there an aim to reform and rebuild the NHS? This is a question I haven’t heard answered yet as they focus on short term, and it’s presented as a short term plan.

  6.  @steveharrison76 . I’m not trolling you, I have a slight doubt now as to whether you are the serious commentator I thought you were if you are resorting to that accusation. I’ll persist in good faith however. I’m asking you to provide evidence that supports your initial assertion. I reread my comment and it seems pretty clear rebuttal of your initial points. Which parts didn’t you get? The question marks signify where I’m asking a question. I did not say or imply that it would be cost neutral cost. The fact Labour are talking about using the private sector to support existing healthcare means it’s going to cost more. You appear to be assuming the cost is coming out of existing budgets, and this isn’t currently clear. You also don’t seem to understand that, at this point, the NHS is basically privatised anyway. It is not clear if Labour are going to change this as they haven’t commented on it either way. Currently the use of additional private capacity is being pitched as a time limited plan to get waiting lists down. You don’t seem to be presenting any kind of plan to deal with the issue. What are the alternatives? Recruiting and training more staff, and building more facilities will take time and that means people will die and/or live in pain. I’m not seeing any alternative to Streeting’s plan, maybe you can share yours? To reiterate, you are making three of unsourced assertions in your initial comment that I believe are wrong either partially or completely. I’ve provided my thought as to why, and I’m asking you to provide sources and convince me of the validity of your position. I hope this helps.

  7. Just to make it easy for you, how do you know that a private hospital isn’t profitable while running at under capacity? You could still need the same amount if staff if you are running under capacity. If you have a ward that needs one nurse irrespective of if 1 or 20 beds are filled. You are also assuming that companies don’t plan for projected grown. In short, you have overly simplified things to support your narrative.
